A very challenging 160km route has been added to the already very popular 106km, 65km and 35km race distances. The distance has been well received by locals and makes the Tsogo Sun Amashova one of very few races in South Africa to offer this kind of extreme distance. The hills and overall profile of the Richmond area will push the limits of the brave cyclists prepared to take on the challenge.
Apart from these two main announcements, there are also a number of other things to look forward to for cyclists and spectators. One of these is a comprehensive Expo taking place prior to race day that will see a number of top brands, products and services geared towards healthy living and cycling showcasing their goods to the public. The venue for this year’s race number pick up and late entries has also been changed to the luxurious Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani Hotelon Durban’s beach front.
Some things that haven’t changed for this year’s race is the full road closurse on one of the most picturesque and challenging routes from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. The day will also still lends itself to the overall enjoyment of cyclists and spectators alike with fantastic food and festivities to be had on the route as well as live music and an array of food stalls offered post-race on the Suncoast Casino Hotels & Entertainment lawns.
Although the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic is regarded by competitive cyclists as an important event on their cycling calendar, it’s also gained the reputation to be a wonderful event for social cyclists.
Entries are open to anyone with a bike!
