900 riders registered for inaugural GFNY Florida Sebring
Despite a year of so many unknowns, GFNY Florida Sebring kicks off as largest cycling race ever held in Florida. Luis Dominguez wins final sprint!
NEW YORK CITY, October 23, 2020 – Under strict Covid-19 safety measures approved by local authorities, riders are extremely excited to be taking part in the race this Sunday, with many loyal GFNY riders saying it will be the highlight of their year.
Riders registered from 25 countries will, however, be unable to make the trip to Sebring due to travel restrictions and receive free entries for the 2021 race instead. While this means the international field will be unusually small for a GFNY, more athletes than anticipated from across the US are taking advantage of the race.
“We expect riders from over 20 states, from California and Washington State to Maine and Florida,” said Lidia Fluhme, GFNY’s co-founder. “All riders will have a very safe racing experience, with the full course being police-controlled and many portions being fully closed to traffic.”
The gentle rolling course will traverse old Florida charm as riders pass through native Florida ‘scrub’ habitat and cattle ranches before heading out on to a loop that incorporates rolling hills through miles of iconic Florida orange groves. The post-race Finish Village for both distances will be at the Sebring Civic center.
The top 10% of riders over all age groups in the long course will qualify for a front corral start at any GFNY for the following 380 days.
