Primoz Roglic will defend La Vuelta title against Bernal and Carapaz
Primoz Roglic will go for his third straight La Vuelta victory competing against Egan Bernal and Richard Carapaz in just under two weeks time as Tadej Pogacar bows out
Jumbo Visma have annouced their line up for the 2021 Vuelta a Espana, Primoz Roglic face off against Egan Bernal and Richard Carapaz, as Tadej Pogacar has deceided to bow out and resume racing later in the season.
“These riders are, I believe, the most important riders in three-week stage racing right now. All of them are very competitive, and it’d be a great opportunity to see who is ‘the best of the best’,” La Vuelta director Guillen said.
Can Roglic Join the Three-Times Vuelta Champions Club?
Roglic will line up at the Vuelta a España next weekend as the two-time defending champion and with a shot of becoming the first rider in 16 years of taking three straight titles — and only the third in the race’s history.
The last person to do the triple was Roberto Heras between 2003 and 2005, while Tony Rominger is the only other rider to have achieved the feat.
There have been some bitter disappointments for Roglic this season, not least being forced to leave the Tour de France after only one week, which drove him to lay it on the line on the Olympic time trial.
