Fothergill and Dudding fastest at UCI Tour of Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo
The UK's biggest cycling festival attracted over 4,000 cyclists taking part in the UCI amateur and professional races and sportives
Over 700 cyclists took part in the UCI Gran Fondo race on the Sunday, part of the festival weekend. The Gran Fondo was held on fully closed roads and was a mass participation event with a mass start with results determined by chip time. The 66 mile route contained 2,180 feet of climbing.
In the women's race, Lorna Dudding was fastest in a time of 2h 49m 53s ahead of Belgian Meggie Van Beeumen (Fevex Cycling Team) in second (2h 52m 22s) and Helen Jackson (Kendal Cycle Club) in third (2h 52m 37s).
Stolen Goat Race Team stole the show in the men's race, Jack Fothergill (Stolen Goat Race Team) was fastest in a time of 2h34m 58s teammates Tom Kirk and Peter Hitt who finished together 8 seconds behind.
The event allows competitors finishing in the top 25% of their age/gender category to qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships taking place next August in Scotland.
2023 Tour of Cambridgeshire UCI Time Trial Results
Over 550 cyclists took part in the Individual Time Trial on the Saturday. The amateur time trial covered 16.4 miles on closed roads with 500 feet of elevation gain.
Will Lowden (Huub Wattshop) set the fastest time of 33m 4s for the men. Teammate Simon Wilson, was second in a time 33m 16s, followed by Alex Doherty (Drag2Zero) at 33m 52s in third place.
Kate Allan (Team Bottrill) set the fastest women’s time of 36m 36s ahead of Jennifer George (37m 48s) in second and 2022 UCI Gran Fondo Time Trial World Champion Jennifer Rhodes-Jones at 38m 27s in third place

Organisers of the Tour of Cambridgeshire, Golazo Cycling, have decided the 2023 edition of the event will be the final one.
The event, which is the only British qualifier for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, has been running since 2015, the final event will be the seventh edition after two years were lost to the pandemic.
