Estonians Tuisk and Tamm take victory at Tartu Rattaralli
The 44th edition of the Tartu Rattaralli, the largest mass participation cycling event in the Baltic countries, witnessed an exhilarating display of speed and endurance as nearly 5,000 riders took to the roads
In a thrilling display of endurance and speed, Lauri Tamm (VILLENEUVE SAINT GERMAIN) and Aidi Gerde Tuisk (TEAM COOP-REPSOL) emerged victorious at the 44th Tartu Rattaralli race, held Sunday morning in Estonia. Competing against a field of over 5,000 participants, Tamm clinched the overall win, while Tuisk secured first place in the women's category.
The race unfolded over a challenging 131-kilometer course known for its flat and fast terrain, drawing cyclists from across the globe. Tamm, just 21 years old, showcased remarkable determination as he chased down Karl Patrick Lauk in the final kilometer, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:48:13, a mere second ahead of Lauk. Romet Pajur followed closely behind, finishing just three seconds later.
"Lauk attacked unexpectedly early, and I already had the feeling that I wouldn't be able to catch him," Tamm recounted , "Finally, I caught up, and then there was already less than a kilometer to go. I was able to pass Karl Patrick by coming from behind with more speed."
In the women's race, Tuisk, 24, faced fierce competition, but her tenacity shone through in a dramatic sprint finish. She narrowly defeated Malwina Mul and Camilla Byed, completing the race in 2:55:07. The close finish highlighted the competitive spirit of the event, as Tuisk celebrated her hard-fought victory.
The Tartu Rattaralli is not just a race; it serves as a qualifying event for the prestigious UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, scheduled to be held in Australia in October 2025. Competitors who finished in the top 25% of their UCI age/gender categories earned the chance to represent their nations on an international stage.
The event continues to grow in popularity, drawing cycling fans and athletes from various backgrounds, each eager to test their limits and experience the camaraderie of the cycling community. This year’s race not only showcased the athletic prowess of its participants but also underscored the vibrant cycling culture in Estonia.
