Join cyclists from around the world on an epic journey across the Scandinavian peninsula to the Arctic Circle, from the Gulf of Bothnia to the Norwegian Sea – and back again. The Midnight Sun Randonnée celebrates endurance, self-reliance and solitude; and not least the pure joy of cycling on empty roads, through timeless arctic landscapes in never-ending daylight; far, far away from the stress and hustle of everyday life.

Whether you’re a seasoned randonneur or a passionate cyclist seeking a new challenge, the Midnight Sun Randonnée lets you test your limits against the forces of nature. Follow winding roads through glacial river valleys, ride along the shores of crystal-clear lakes and emerald-green fjords. Cross vast coniferous forests and wetlands. Climb snow-capped mountains and endure the ever-changing arctic weather. Spot wildlife – watch out for reindeer and moose on the road! Stay at selected lodges and hotels offering authentic hospitality and local cuisine such as Fried Palt with Lingonberries or Arctic Char Soup. And after your ride, celebrate Swedish Midsummer and experience the culture and living heritage of Sweden – during the summer solstice.

The event program begins in the morning on Saturday the 13th of June with a guided coffee ride to Lake Tavelsjö and Tavelsjö Inn, followed by a buffet dinner in the afternoon at Brännland Inn. If you’ve ordered a cycling jersey or t-shirt, they can be picked up after the buffet dinner.

The brevet starts from Brännland Inn in the evening on Sunday the 14th of June. Participants who have checked out from their hotels gather at Brännland Inn during the day. If you were staying at Scandic Plaza, bring walking shoes and make an excurision to nearby attractions. Volunteers will return your walking shoes to the hotel in the evening. If you need more sleep, take a nap in the quiet room at Brännland Inn. Here, a late lunch is served at 15:00, and later on at 19:00 an evening meal. If you need to make adjustments to your bike you’ll find a bike mechanic here during the afternoon. The first start group departs from Brännland Inn at 23:02. You can choose a start group at sign-in which starts at 20:00.

On returning from your ride, visit the french pâtisserie Laure’s Fika for a coffee and a Soleil de minuit. Check your email for a free voucher when arriving to Umeå. The event program ends in the afternoon on Friday the 19th of June, the day after the ride, with a traditional Swedish Midsummer celebration in Norrmjöle, a small village by the sea.

Registration Fees

Book a starting place, then make your final registration at a date of your choosing, but no later than the 31st of May. The initial entry fee of 30 EUR is non-refundable.

For final registrations made before New Year’s Eve on the 31st of December, the registration fee is 270 EUR. From the 1st of January until the 31st of March the registration fee is 320 EUR. For registrations made from the 1st of April until the 31st of May, the fee is 370 EUR. Reserved starting places that are not converted into final registrations by the 31st of May will be categorised as DNS.

You have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the date of your final registration. If you make your final registration before the 1st of January your registration fee is fully refunded until the 31st of March, thereafter an administration fee of 100 EUR is deducted. If you make your final registration between the 1st of January and the 31st of May your registration fee is refunded minus an administration fee of 150 EUR. Registration fees are not refunded after the 31st of May.

Included

Midnight Sun Randonnée is a non-commercial event. An overwhelming percentage of the budget covers food and sleeping arrangements for participants in the event. Included in the registration fee: a printed brevet card and a digital brevet card which allows for live tracking, hot and cold meals and snacks and beverages at all controls on route and also before and after the ride. Also included are basic sleeping arrangements at the start location and at eight controls on route which for the most part include showers, drying facilities and in some cases saunas. At some controls towels are rented. Some controls also have mechanical services and a pump.

The registration fee also includes long term parking, a bagdrop service before start between the start location Brännland Inn and the hotel Scandic Plaza. For participants who finish the ride also validation by Les Randonneurs Mondiaux, a commemorative medal and priority pre-registration to Paris–Brest–Paris 2027 is included. For riders who abandon the ride in Mo i Rana, Norway, the registration fee includes a taxi service from Mo i Rana to the bus station in Hemavan, Sweden, for unassisted onward travel to Umeå.

Also included in the registration fee is the events own adaptation of the famous pastry Paris-Brest, a Soleil de minuit with coffee. All riders are also welcome to participate in a pre-event coffee ride on Saturday the day before start and later to picnic and celebrate Swedish Midsummer’s Eve in the village Norrmjöle on Friday the day after the event finishes.
