The event aims to raise awareness of the landscape of Tavira, with an enviable location between the mountains and the sea, as well as find out the interior and traditions of life, still very characteristic in this part of the Algarve.
And we're not just talking about Cultural Heritage but also Sports heritage, given the history and relevance of the city of Tavira, and Tavira cyclists in the history of cycling.

The GranFondo is an event of cycling "open race" because is a race with time, ratings and awards.

The big difference to a professional cycle race is that the roads are not conditioned or closed int total for the cyclists, that have any age, individually or with times. This are mass events each day appears more events of this nature. Our expectation is to have more than 700 participants in our race.

The GranFondos are a bike event of at least 120 km away. The starts are made in mass, and the format allows athletes of all levels to participate.
The GranFondos are defined in challenging courses that are generally between 120 km and 200 km, and have between 2,000 m and 4,000 m of altimetry (positive slope). Most of this events also offers a shorter and easy version (medium Fondo).

These events are thought as bike races. Cyclists lead, accompanied by commissary cars, police escort, as well as technical and medical assistance.
The Supply Zones throughout the course replace the teams cars.

A challenging and scenic route, bringing together a multitude of cyclists ranging from professionals to beginners, who take part in the event through friendship, personal challenge and physical boundaries, panoramic views, personal success and the chance to win prizes. Adding food areas supplied by cheerful volunteers which serve healthy snacks, fruits and beverages, and traffic stops at intersections to allow athletes to pass. To these factors, we should join enthusiastic spectators to accompany the course.

Energy, excitement and environment - this is the Gran Fondo - a phenomenon that has more and more fans!
