The Gran Fondo Garneau-Quebecor of 2015 raises $90K for the Little Brothers Foundation

After 3,000 riders participated in the 2015 Gran Fondo Garneau-Quebecor, many others are going to have a very warm holiday season. With that attendance, $90,223 was raised, the proceeds being donated to the Little Brothers Foundation and their support of the lonely elderly.

Since the event’s creation in 2009, a press release from Louis Garneau reads, more than $380,000 has been raised for the same purpose.

The purpose of the event is to support elderly persons who may not have others, and in the last six years, the response to the cause has been massive—and moving. This time of year, with the holiday season having arrived, the generosity raised by the 100-plus kilometre ride through the Trois-Rivieres region of Quebec has a notably important significance, one highlighted by none other than Louis Garneau himself.

“The Christmas season,” Garneau said, “is the perfect moment for sharing, and one of my favourites of the year, because it is at this time that we present a great gft to the Little Brothers and our Old Friends. My team and I have worked very hard to offer a wonderful day to the participants of the Gran Fondo Garneau-Quebecor presented by Cascades and it brings me great joy and pride to be able to once again help the organization that I have ben supporting for 14 years now.” Expanding upon that statement, Garneau also thanked the event’s partners and participants, all of whom were involved and helped bring comfort to the event’s beneficiaries.

On the other side, Caroline Sauriol, executive director of Little Brothers, reflected the same delight with a note of heartfelt gratitude.

“By supporting the Little Brothers,” she said, “Louis Garneau and all the Gran Fondo Garneau-Quebecor participants allow us to break the isolation and solitude of the elderly of the Quebec region. With this support, the Old Friends can enjoy the delights and comfort of a big family all year round, as well as precious getaways to the St-Joseph Lake vacation cottage surrounded by the love of volunteers.”

Registration for 2016’s Gran Fondo, meanwhile, is currently open.
