British Cyclist Ian Bashford dies in Duo Normand Time Trial

An amateur cyclist from London has died in a crash during a two man time trial in France

The event the Duo Normand two-man time trial was over shadowed by the death of British Cyclist Ian Bashford

Police are said to be investigating why a vehicle had swerved into his path 200m (650ft) from the finish line.

Team mate Peter Grey wasn't involved.

His cycling club, Old Portlians, confirmed his death in a statement, saying it happened during the final descent to the finish.

Race organizers considered cancelling the event but in agreement with the deceased’s cycling club, the race was continued in his memory and to honor him.

A 27 year-old male driver was taken to hospital suffering from shock after the incident.

Luke Durbridge and teammate Svein Tuft from Orica-BikeExchange went on to claim their third victory at the Duo Normand, equaling Chris Boardman's 3 wins.
