Gran Fondo in the Bahamas

Escape winter and ride the Eleuthera Gran Fondo this February 18th

The Bahamas are located 190 miles off the Florida coast.Eleuthera is an island in The Bahamas, lying 50 miles east of the country’s capital- Nassau. It is long and thin —110 miles (180 km) long and only several miles wide. Eleuthera is truly a gem. A wonderful place to explore, beach, and get away from it all.
The average temperature in February is 70F, the temperature is pretty constant all year round.

The Bahamas average temperature in February is 70F.

Eleuthera means freedom in Greek, and that’s exactly the feeling that will wash over you as you ride traffic free along the virtually empty roads that extend across the island. It’s a cyclist’s paradise - in paradise.

It was named by English Pilgrims who settled here in 1648 to enjoy their own liberty. Once world famous for its pineapples, there are still acres of rolling hill plantations, while the edge of this historical wonderland is fringed with sublime pink and white sand beaches.

Getting to Nassau is only a 45 minute plane ride from Miami and 3 hours from major east coast cities in North America with affordable airfares and direct flight options. From Nassau, you can then get over to Eleuthera via air or sea.

Ride for Hope Gran Fondo Eleuthera

Ride for Hope Eleuthera Gran FondoThe Ride for Hope Gran Fondo, a long-distance road cycling event in which participants ride a marked route, will be held on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 in Eleuthera. The Ride will be staged at Cocodimama Charming Resort in Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera. Rider participation levels will be linked directly to the amount of funds each rider raises, and each rider’s participation kit and recognition will also be based on the funds they raise.

Susan Larson, co-founder of The Ride for Hope, said, “The Ride for Hope is a fundraiser. We garner funds together to meaningfully impact a critical cause, and eradicate cancer from our shores. Our riders’ donations help save lives every day, and we are committed to helping riders do so by putting on a high-calibre event in 2017.”

Ride for Hope is a charitable ride designed to accommodate people of all ages and cycling abilities. It matters not if you ride 10 miles or 100 miles, the event places an emphasis on the fundraising efforts of the rider.

Each rider determines which participation level they will individually participate in and this defines the amount of funds they intend to raise for the Ride for Hope, once the minimum has been raised it is up to the rider to set his or her own personal goal of how far to ride.

The $50 entry fee plus fundraising level includes bicycle transportation to and from Governor's Harbour from Nassau, an invitation to the Friday Night high carb dinner, and the rider participant kit.

Eleuthera has a virtually empty, traffic free, 2 lane highway that runs the length of the island called the Queen`s Highway which allows you to ride 50 miles across the island, making a round trip a total of 100 miles - if you want.

Considered one of the most successful fundraising events in The Bahamas, the Ride for Hope has raised close to $3,000,000 since its inception.
