Experience The Essence Of The Tour De France In California This April

L'ETAPE CALIFORNIA April 30, 2017

LOS ANGELES, Calif. & PARIS, France (January 15, 2017) – This year on April 30, the annual L’Etape California mass participation bike ride becomes an official event of the recently formed Etape by le Tour de France Ride Series, it was announced by the world’s leading sports & live entertainment company AEG and A.S.O., the owners and operators of the Tour de France. Now in its seventh year, California’s most popular one-day spring cycling event provides amateurs and aspiring professional cyclists the opportunity to ride a scenic and challenging route designed to create and inspire the spirit of racing over the state’s iconic mountains and highways. The Etape by le Tour de France Ride Series encourages cyclists around the world to experience authentic Tour de France legendary stages in over 14 international locations including Korea, Australia, South Africa, and Brazil. Open to the public and serious riders at all skill levels, registration opens this Saturday, January 14, for the 2017 California event on Sunday, April 30, 2017.

“Extending our partnership with A.S.O. to produce the 2017 L’Etape California by le Tour de France brings the best of classic European cycling right here to California. The day-long event will offer up a challenging course, lots to see and do, and thousands of fellow riders for our most exciting public ride yet,” said Kristin Klein, Amgen Tour of California president and executive vice president of AEG Sports.

L’Etape California by Le Tour de France is a ride designed to challenge cyclists on a course comparable to an Alps Mountain stage of the world’s most well-known cycling race. Through more than 80 miles and 11,000 feet of elevation gain, riders will navigate the beautiful mountain roads of north Los Angeles in a quest to reach the summit of Mt. Baldy, a famous landmark for California outdoor enthusiasts and also an Amgen Tour of California summit finish for the May 2017 race. Cyclists are encouraged to sign up to enjoy a challenging and memorable day of French food, sights, sounds, and riding like a Tour de France champion!

“The Tour de France is passionately followed by fans around the world so it is natural for the Etape du Tour Series to expand to California, an area known for year-round sunshine and great roads for cyclists,” said Christian Prudhomme, Tour de France General Director.

The original L’Etape du Tour ride, the premier mass participation race in Europe, was established in 1993 and has grown to one of the sport’s biggest annual rides with over 15,000 riders. Though the course changes yearly and the ride is always a goal of passionate Tour de France fans as they get to experience the roads just days before the professional riders. Three-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome serves as an ambassador for the series.

Registration will open to the general public January 14 at 7 a.m. PST. Fans who have participated in the L’Etape California in prior years will be eligible to register early and earn a free Tour de France gift starting January 12.
