VIDEO: Big Bear Lake Time Trial Teaser
On Friday, May 19th, the Amgen Tour of California will once again be visiting Big Bear Lake, and its Stage 6 time trial is sure to be one of the most critical stages of the race for the professional riders looking to take the general classification honors
With Neil Shirley, Lyman Agency and Ben Wolfe from Jelly Belly Cycling Team P/B Maxxis
Following Stage 5’s summit finish on Mt Baldy, the time trial will be the second decisive stage in a row and is likely to be the final opportunity to seal the overall victory.
Just before the Redlands Cycling Classic kicked off, Ben Wolfe and Serghei Tvetcov of Jelly Belly P/B Maxxis joined a handful of media to preview the 15-mile time trial route that starts in the heart of the Village and follows the scenic lakeshore terrain. With a police escort leading the way, the pro riders had the opportunity to get a critical look at such a key stage, while media got to play pro racer for a day.

The full time trial preview is coming soon, watch this space!
At 6,752’ and featuring one of the most beautiful lakes in California, the City of Big Bear Lake will welcome spectators for the third time – this year for the fan-favorite, the Men’s Individual Time Trial stage, where racers will take off one at a time, riding against the clock for the best time of the day.
The course will begin in the heart of the Village in Big Bear Lake. The first three miles of the route wend through a residential section along the south shore of the lake. Taking the Stanfield Cutoff across the lake, the course will turn left, continuing on Hwy 38 to the town of Fawnskin. As the riders turn back toward the City of Big Bear Lake following essentially the same route back into town, they can expect large crowds in Fawnskin.
Heading right onto Big Bear Blvd. with just 0.6 miles left, the riders will then turn right onto Pine Knot Ave, through a narrow stone archway and onto a 1,000-foot jetty. For riders pushing their physical limits, the finish line will very close to the water’s edge! This is very flat and fast course. Don’t expect riders to score huge time gaps over their rivals to take a big lead into Stage 7.
