Italy back at the Gran Fondo World Tour ® Series with the De Rosa Gran Fondo Firenze
Rain, cold and light Snow, challenged 2,200 participants who completed the Tuscany region route, with the start and finish in the city centre
An itinerary along the Tuscany region with 3 mountain passes and a final arrival across the line of World Championship circuit which included 600 metres of climb via Salviati where 2013 World Championships hosted fights between pros including Valverde, Rui Costa, “Purito” Rodriguez.
The overall winners of the long distance was, Simona Parente for the women and Lorenzo Fanelli for the men, averaging over 35 km/h, a hard day for all participants due bad weather conditions that forced a lot of them to turn onto the short distance to get warm befor the arrival at the finish line.
The two day Firenze Bike Expo complemented the event, representing an excellent opportunity to discover the city and combine culture, tourism and the Gran Fondo in one weekend. Vèloce Club Firenze team, lead by Alessandro Cipriani; took care of the participants along the route and ensured them feeding points on a cold and rainy day.
At the Expo there was a premiere presentation by De Rosa Bikes of their first road ebike, having entered this emerging sector with style and the style characteristics of the Italian premium bike brand.
The Next stop of Gran Fondo World Tour ® Series will be in Switzerland, at Cyclotour du Leman, where Céline Schärer, a local pro triathlete will be again be wearing the womens pink “Maglia” leaders jersey.
For the men, the open fight will continue between Davide Rebellin and Stephane Cognet, whilst either of them have confirmed their participation at one of Switzerland's biggest and best cycling events.
