Gran Fondo Giro d Italia Vienna

May 14 2017
Vienna, Austria, Europe

The Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia Vienna is a cycling race for hobby athletes and the only city cycle marathon in Austria. On May 15th, 2016 the third edition takes place in Vienna. The start will be in the 2nd district. From there on the participants ride through a large public park, the Prater, circle the 1st district on the Ringstraße with all the famous buildings – state opera, parliament and theaters. After that they will reach the Danube via Praterstraße and leave Vienna on the Handelskai to get to Lower Austria.

There will be two different courses for the amateur cyclists: the Grand Fondo with a length of 137 kilometers and the Medio Fondo with 67 kilometers. The first distance is aimed at ambitious amateur riders and only racing bikes are allowed.

The shorter race is ideal for beginners or cyclists who prefer an easier route. For this distance, also mountain bikes and touring bikes are allowed. The height profile of the Medio Fondo is very flat and perfect for an easier ride. The Gran Fondo with the climbs to the Dopplerhütte, the Tulbinger Kogel and the Castle Kreuzenstein includes 1500 meters of altitude change.
