2018 Haute Route North America

The Shimano Gran Fondo

The Shimano Gran Fondo

August 26 2018
Peterborough, Ontario, Canada

The Shimano Gran Fondo is scheduled for Sunday, August 28 at Shimano Canada’s head office in Peterborough, Ontario.

Located in the heart of the Kawarthas region, Peterborough’s surrounding area is filled with picturesque and challenging roads that are perfect for a well-rounded bicycle ride. Part of the Gran Fondo’s inspiration stems from an award-winning partnership launched in 2015 between Shimano Canada and Peterborough and the Kawarthas Tourism Division. Some of the finest cycling friendly roads have been identified and marked with street signs to encourage more cyclists to visit the region for cycling. The Shimano Gran Fondo will be one of the first formal events to use these roads.

Structure and Premise:

The ride’s structure and set-up is intended to be inclusive with smaller groups that will ensure every cyclist will ride in a cohort that is well-suited to their abilities. With two distances (115km and 150km) and support vehicles, cyclists will have the ability to ride in complete comfort.

The ticket to the ride will be a Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Speed jersey. In the coming weeks, more details regarding the Shimano Gran Fondo will follow. In addition to the ride, there will be a catered lunch - and the complete package, without revealing too much, is one we are sure every cyclist will appreciate. You will be able register here on Friday, April 1.

We’ll have our two jersey options posted on Thursday, March 31, and the registration page will be live Friday, April 1, upon which time you’ll be able to register for the fondo. Pick your design – and we’ll see you on August 28.

There are 150 spots open for registration in the Shimano Gran Fondo and participants have two ride options to choose from. The medio fondo features a 115-km course and there is the 150-km gran fondo course. With an event of this size, participants can expect a more personal experience as the ride is intended to be a grassroots event with riding group sizes of around 15 to 20. Each group will have a follow vehicle, will be led by a ride marshal and there will be pacing suitable to all abilities.
