Gran Fondo La Campionissimo

2017 Gran Fondo La Campionissimo

June 23 - June 26 2017
Aprica, Lombardy, Italy

The Champion of Champions (La Campionissimo) ticks all the boxes for clients who are looking for a weekend Gran Fondo package that tackles some of the most iconic climbs in Europe.

La Campionissimo is superbly run with riders having the choice of 3 spectacular routes (all on closed roads) that take in some of the best scenery that Italy has to offer. Mortirolo, Passo Gavia and San Cristiana are three of the highlights of the course for those choosing to tackle the longer route. (See below for more details of the options available.)

La Campionissimo takes over the stylish Alpine town of Aprica for the whole weekend, starting with the build-up on Saturday, which includes exhibitions, shows and pasta parties. It is great fun and a good opportunity to meet fellow cyclists from all over the world who come to the race to experience the thrill of riding in Italy.
Aprica hosted the finish of a Giro d’Italia stage in 2015 and so is well accustomed to hosting large-scale cycling events. It is a vibrant town with plenty or bars and restaurants for those looking for some nightlife.

Friday, 23th June – Day 1

Our team will meet you at the arrival gates of Milan Bergamo before transferring you to your hotel in Aprica. Here, our professional team of mechanics will assemble your bikes or assist you with any hired bikes. Having a professional on hand, who has spare parts and an eye for detail, will be a great help with any problems you may have further down the road! In the evening, we will head out for a pizza in a local pizzeria and maybe the odd glass of wine.

Saturday, 24th June – Day 2

After breakfast, we will head out for a short walk to register for the race and sort out all the bits and bobs that need to be done prior to taking part in a Gran Fondo. You will also receive our ‘race jersey’ here, which we ask you to wear during the La Campionissimo. After registration is completed, we will head over to the Expo to have a look round and maybe make a purchase or two!
After lunch, we will head out on the bike to take a look at the course, particularly the first and last 10km. This is a good opportunity for you to stretch your legs and check the bike to make sure it is just how you want it. Our mechanics will be with you in case you need any alterations. We will also carry plenty of spares should you need any.

We will have a quick shower on our return, before heading over to the evening ‘race briefing’. This will only be short and we will head back to the hotel afterwards to eat as much pasta at dinner as we can manage!

Sunday, 25th June – Day 3

Race day! After breakfast, you will ride the short distance to the start line. We will be on hand to make any last minute alterations to your bike and support you in any way you need. Last year’s race was started by the five-time Tour winner Miguel Indurain and there is always a frantic pace as the riders compete to get a good position.
Once we know you are off and underway, we will meet you on the course to hand out drinks, gels and bars, should you need them. We will also be on hand to make adjustments to the bike, if necessary, and meet you on your arrival at the finish. Here, we will look after your bike, give you a well-deserved drink and provide you with a place to relax and watch the rest of the riders come rolling in. The presentations for the winners start in the afternoon and there is always a great, festive atmosphere.
In the evening, we will head out into Aprica along with many of the other riders for a post-race celebratory meal and drinks!

Monday, 26th June – Day 4

Sadly, this is the day of your departure. Your bike will be packed up ready for your flight home and we will transfer you to Milan Bergamo, wishing you a safe trip back after a great weekend that we are sure will provide you with many lasting memories of Italy to take home with you.
