Bucks Road Sportive

February 25 2018
Rickmansworth, South East, UK

A 2 distance road sportive of 100 and 85 km around the Buckinghamshire countryside featuring some of the iconic climbs, open to all. GPX routes and fully marked route, 1000M plus of climbing, licensed bar at the end.

This event is a two distance road ride and is an event that started up 6 years ago to complement the established off road sportive and to meet the demands of the promoting club who now have a big road presence in the London area and who regularly feature amongst the fastest club teams in the Prudential ride London as well as organising road tours over the iconic climbs of the big three stage races, the Giro, the Vuetla and of course the Tour De France.

The routes for the rides are normally around the 100km mark for the long ride and 85 km for the shorter ride with the routes being established since the events interception but having some subtle changes over the last couple of years to accommodate the new HQ from 2015, the Chiltern Social club where a warm welcome is always guaranteed and where in addition to the usual Tea and cake there is a licensed bar if your looking to celebrate completing the ride.

Both the full 100km and the shorter 85 km rides will feature some of the iconic Chiltern Hills, the rides start off through the Chalfonts and Gt Missenden which allows a fairly flat start to encourage some bunch riding and shelter before the last half sees some hard climbs which always splits the field ,this will be a tough ride for February unless you are on good early season form. The ride sticks mainly to B road and lanes.

The event is limited in terms of numbers with a maximum field of 300 riders. The routes will be signposted and GPS files will be available and sent out to all pre entered riders the week preceding the event .

This will be a ride to test yourself over the distance, no food stops will be provided but there will be plenty of food at the HQ for pre and post event carbs with energy products from CNP available at discounted prices as well as the provision of a licensed bar for those not driving back. The ride passes though both Gt Missenden and Marlow where there are a number of establishments that are open for food on a Sunday if you do get desperate.

This event has now been run for the last 6 years with people complementing the event for the friendly atmosphere and well marked challenging route.

This year the event again starts from the Chiltern Sports and Social Club Maple Lodge , Maple Cross which is easily accessible from the M25 /M40 the 100 km ride will follow last years route The shorter route has been amended from last year to take advantage of quieter roads.

As the event is run at the end of February inclemency weather must be expected and participants should be prepared for the vagaries of the British winter.

Riders will start in groups and there will be 3 times to aim for in the longest distance, 3-3.5hrs -Gold Standard, 3.5-4.15hrs Silver Standard and 4.15 to 5hrs Bronze standards
