Alex Driscoll fastest at 2018 National Gran Fondo Championships in Maryland

Alex Driscoll, from Catonsville, Maryland fastest overall,as Renee Roth from GermanTown

FREDERICK, Maryland  — Steady rain and temperatures in the 50s confronted the competitors in Sunday’s National Gran Fondo Cycling Championships. The riders competed over a 96.5 mile course, with 9,133 feet of vertical climbing, that traversed Frederick County and briefly crossed into Washington County near Fort Ritchie. Times were recorded from four predesignated time zones along the route, adding up to 23.9 miles with 2,658 vertical climbing feet. They were combined to determine overall places.

The event winner was Alex Driscoll, 33, of Catonsville, Maryland in 1h 14m 40s

Hagerstown’s Tyler Waldron, 34, a USA Cycling Category II racer who represents the Bike Doctor Racing Team of Frederick, placed sixth overall in 1h 15m 45s
