The all-new 2022 Gran Fondo Wicklow revealed
Your opportunity to ride in the stunning Wicklow Mountains in Southern Ireland next July 9 - 10, 2022
The 2022 Gran Fondo Wicklow is a new event that is coming to Ireland on July 9th-10th 2022. It is supported by well-known club Starsky Cycling with their amazing efforts in organizing races across Leinster in Ireland, proud hosts of 2022 Leinster Criterium Championships.
There are two routes, the 120 km Gran Fondo and 86 km Medio Fondo set within the most breath-taking scenery in Wicklow Mountains you will ever experience. Both routes are challenging, with Gran Fondo targeted for the strongest, and most seasoned of the riders.
A 120 kilometres in Wicklow Mountains is said to be one of the toughest cycling you can experience, this event guarantees to take you to another level on the Gran Fondo, the ultimate test of your skill, power and endurance.
Starting and finishing in Manor Kilbride, there two well-stocked food stops on route after 42 km for all riders and after 98 km for Gran Fondo participants only.
Gran Fondo Wicklow will test you in the best way, providing detailed timing of your lap, and the hill climbs.
There is also a Time Trial on the Saturday that features a 21.8km long route with 2 laps around Blessington Lake with prizes up to 6th place in over 13 age categories.
Live entertainment (music), food & drink provided, it’ll be a grand day out for the supporters and families of the participants. The event is approved by Cycling Ireland.
The Medio Fondo
The 86 km Medio Fondo set within the most breath-taking scenery in Wicklow Mountains and packs in over 1,500 metres of climbing.
It includes some of the toughest climbs including; the Jackhammer, the famous Wicklow Gap, Glenmacnass and finally Sally Gap!
The Gran Fondo
The 120 km Gran Fondo is also set within the most breath-taking scenery in Wicklow Mountains and packs in over 2,100 metres of climbing.
The Gran Fondo includes some of the best climbs in the Wicklow Mountains included in the Medio Fondo but pushes you in even further with the climbs of the Gap, the Lugg and the Luggala climbs on top of the Jackhammer, the famous Wicklow Gap, Glenmacnass and finally Sally Gap!
All Gran Fondo Wicklow participants will receive a commemorative Medal for finishing, and the winner will receive a special Gran Fondo Wicklow Jersey.
There is a Bike maintenance station and SAG van to support all participants, ample parking and changing rooms and toilets located at the start in Manor Kilbride.
The event will bring the cycling community together for the Gran Fondo in 2022 and for participants, it’s a great opportunity to cycle among the most experienced cyclists.
Gran Fondo Time Trial
The Time Trial on Saturday July 9th is for those who want to test their strength and speed on a short 2 lap route around Blessington Lake, 21.8km altogether.
It’s pretty flat with only 74m of climbing, however the wind could play a factor and high speeds.
It will be a challenge to achieve your best time, but there has to be a winner and it might be you! Your ride will be timed, and all results will be published on our website.
Gran Fondo Time Trial that will start at 9:30 am with 1 minute gap between cyclists, so hurry as we have limited spaces available for this challenge!
Gran Fondo Youth Race
The Gran Fondo Youth Road Race on Saturday July 9th will start at 13:30 pm for ages 10, 11, 12, 13 and is one lap 10.9km which will be on the same route as the Gran Fondo Time Trial.
At 14:30 pm there will be a start for ages 14, 15, 16, 17 with two laps 21.8km.
Registration is Now Open
Standard entry fee €55 covers hot food, drink and a special medal at the finish line, as well as water and snacks at food stops. The hot food provided will include a choice of soup, vegetarian option, standard option as well as hot and cold drinks.
Anyone who purchases a ticket before March 31 2022 will enter a lottery to win a special prize of up to 500 euros.
