Registration is now open survivalcentury.com for the ART OF SURVIVAL CENTURY and GRAVEL GRINDER Bicycle Ride event taking place on Memorial Day weekend. This event isn't just about pedaling a road or mountain bike through beautiful stretches of county side. It's an opportunity to learn more about rural life in our southern Oregon and northern California communities. Breathe the fresh air as you ride along uncrowded roads.  Enjoy our hospitality and small town atmosphere while you learn about our history.

In the Klamath Basin, Water is Lifemore valuable than the area’s broad acres!  Local farms, ranches and thousands of species of plants and animals rely upon a plentiful water supply from the Cascade Mountains for survival in our High Desert Basin. Early 20th century engineers harnessed the waters of the Basin transforming a vast sea of sagebrush into a fertile valley that rivals the Nile River Delta.  The land beneath the dead inland sea of Tule Lake was reclaimed.  In its place are farms, ranches and three wildlife refuges for waterfowl migrating along the Pacific flyway.

Whether riding a bicycle or not there is plenty to see and do in our region, so bring your family and enjoy the holiday weekend!  Start your adventure at a pre-ride reception on Friday, May 27 from 4:00-6:30 p.m. at the Malin Broadway Theater in Malin, Oregon.  Pick up your ride packets, meet with other cyclists, enjoy refreshments, discover new activities to explore and learn about the history of our area.

Day 1, Saturday, May 28:  Choose from four routes that begin and end at the Malin Community Park in Malin, OR - 100-mile Century, 60-mile Metric Century, 38-mile and family friendly 13-mile road routes; plus a 22-mile mountain bike route in the Medicine Lake Highlands.

Day 2, Sunday, May 29, is a Gravel Grinder Mix covering distances of 73 and 54 miles and a family friendly 13-mile route.  All gravel routes begin and end at the Butte Valley Community Center in Dorris, CA. Participants of the two long routes will ride along the flatlands of Butte Valley, including the Butte Valley Wildlife Area, farms, ranches and up to Juanita Lake. Views of snow-capped Mount Shasta and Goosenest Mountain are plentiful.

Register for rides both days to get a discount. Post-ride meals are offered both days and are included in the registration fees. Purchase additional meal tickets for your guests to celebrate with you.  Camping and lodging options are also available.  For detailed information and to register visit the Art of Survival website at survivalcentury.com
