Unforgettable Routes Unveiled for Cycling Adventure in Michigan’s U.P.

The eagerly awaited moment has arrived for the cycling community as the routes for the much-anticipated MUP 2024 tour have been released

Unforgettable Routes Unveiled for Cycling Adventure in Michigan’s U.P.

Set alongside some of the most scenic forests and landscapes of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, this 7-day camping and bicycling adventure promises to be an unforgettable journey for riders of all levels. MUP is unique because it strays from traditional routes, showing riders Michigan like they’ve never seen it before.

The League of Michigan Bicyclists (LMB) is holding the event from July 5 to July 12. MUP will start and end in Manistique, MI and riders can expect to pedal 50 or more miles per day. MUP riders will traverse through the rugged beauty of the U.P., making memorable stops in Munising, Marquette, and Chatham.

Pedaling a mix of roads and trails, riders will travel from the shore of Lake Michigan to the shore of Lake Superior, through the western edge of the Hiawatha National Forest on the way to Munising. From Munising's stunning Pictured Rocks to Marquette's vibrant cultural scene of shops, restaurants, and breweries, riders will have the opportunity to explore a variety of side trips, including gravel and mountain bike adventures, ORV rentals, and fishing charters. Lastly, the MUP group will celebrate a successful week with an overnight down-home party in Chatham before winding through the dense pine forest on the final leg back to Manistique.

Route details are now available on the MUP website, RideMUP.org, allowing participants to preview the route maps in detail and secure their spot on this premier tour. With limited spots available, those thinking about signing up for MUP 2024 are encouraged to act fast, as these routes are likely to change in future years.

“The MUP route offers an unparalleled step into nature and the beauty and mystery of Michigan's U.P.,” said Neal Glazebrook, Events Director for LMB. “There are numerous waterfalls, amazing forests, landmarks, and niche little spots we pass. Fill your days with historical marker chasing, waterfall seeking, brewery hopping, or make it a local artisan adventure! There’s something for everyone on MUP.”

This July will mark the 31st year of this annual cycling tour, which is a main fundraiser for LMB. LMB is a statewide nonprofit membership organization with a mission to improve life through bicycling.
