An event with international reach, this year’s race saw 1,800 cyclists from 50 nations depart from Bormio, once again confirming its status as a key fixture in the world of amateur sports and a celebration for lovers of epic Alpine climbs, thanks in part to the summit finish at the 2,757-meter-high Stelvio Pass.

As per the now well-established rules, rankings are based solely on the timed ascents included in each of the three routes.

The Kings and Queens of the Mountain

As per the now well-established rules, rankings are based solely on the timed ascents included in each of the three routes. This is a deliberate decision by the organizers, US Bormiese and title sponsor Santini Cycling, aimed at reducing risks during descents. For this reason, the King of the Mountain and Queen of the Mountain jerseys are awarded to the riders with the best combined times across the timed climbs.

Martina Cavallo and Fabio Lanzone were the fastest on the climbs of the Long route, which, over its 124 kilometers, took in Rogorbello, the feared Mortirolo ascent, and of course the climb to the Stelvio Pass.

On the 108-kilometer Medium route, with times summed over the Rogorbello and Stelvio climbs, the Queen of the Mountain jersey was awarded to Mariagrazia Molteni and the King of the Mountain jersey to Simone Donghi.

Last but by no means least, Carmen Broger and Denis Taccola stood out on the 64-kilometer Short route, which featured only the ascent to the Stelvio Pass.

Two Hundred Years of Stelvio

This year, the 2025 edition takes on an especially meaningful significance: it marks the bicentennial of the construction of the Stelvio Pass road. This masterpiece of 19th-century engineering, inaugurated on July 6, 1825, by the Austrian Empire to link Lombardy with Tyrol and stimulate trade, remains a powerful symbol of connection between regions, cultures, and people. With its 2,757 meters of altitude and 88 switchbacks, the Stelvio holds the record as the highest paved road in Europe. Two centuries after its creation, it continues to captivate travelers, athletes, and nature lovers alike, offering an unrivaled setting for events that blend passion, history, and breathtaking views.
