The inaugural UCI Gran Fondo Hainan kickstarts this December 12 - 14, 2025.
It will take you around volcanic coasts, through undiscovered rainforests, offering cycling enthusiasts worldwide, a chance to qualify for the 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Niseko, Japan.

2026 World Championships Qualification
The 2025 UCI GFWS Hainan will feature 2 road races and 1 individual time trial. The two road races are divided into a flat stage and a mountain stage, while the individual time trial route is mainly on flat roads.
The champion of each age group in any of the events will pull on the prestigious UCI Rainbow Jersey, and the top 25% of each age group will directly earn a spot in the 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.
December 12: Stage 1 - 110.80km Flat Stage, Lingao to Danzhou
Unfolding along Hainan’s unique Coastal Scenic Highway, it passes through the Volcanic Coast National Geopark. The spectacular lava and azure sea will create a stunning visual impact.
Flat roads and crosswinds will make for a tactical challenge showcasing the talemts of Sprinters and Roleurs. It passes the cultural landmarks of Lingao Cape and Longmen Jilang (Dragon Gate Surging Waves).
December 13: Stage 2 - 19.39km ITT from Yangpu Coastal Cultural Plaza
Riders must power against the wind alone on this time trial stage, which is known as "the ultimate test of power and mental resilience". The enthusiastic cheers of the audience along the way will become riders’ "invisible pacemakers".
December 14: Stage 3 - 81.70km Mountain Stage, Wuzhishan Rainforest Cycling Challenge
This stage adopts the classic climbing route of the Tour of Hainan (UCI 2.Pro), going deep into the hinterland of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, with a total elevation gain of 1,644 meters and the finish line set at the top of Atuo Ridge. A continuous 13.4km climb with an average gradient of 4.1% that serves as the battlefield for climbers.
Along the way, it passes through Li ethnic villages and secret realms of Wuzhi Mountain, with negatively charged ions and cultural heritage providing positive power along the way.
Sports + Tourism: A Hainan Exploration Journey on Wheels
The race route is through breathtaking scenery, from the "geological museum" of the volcanic coast to the "natural oxygen bar" deep in the rainforest, the magnificent landscape of intertwined volcanic rocks and seawater, and the unique style composed of nature and culture – provide a new "tropical postcard" that unfolds every 10 kilometers as you cycle past.
