REGISTRATION FOR GFNY SAN LUIS POTOSI THIS DECEMBER IS NOW OPEN

For GFNY riders, San Luis Potosi in Mexico offers an experience like no other on 6th December 2026.

San Luis Potosí in early December gives northern-hemisphere cyclists warm, dry, high-altitude riding at the exact moment Europe and North America are frozen, dark, and less unrideable — plus a world-class GFNY championship event to anchor the trip.  Daily highs typically sit around 21–25°C (70–77°F) throughout the month, ideal jersey and bib-shorts weather. The perfect getaway.

Its diverse terrain combines challenging ascents, winding roads, and scenic routes that are as rewarding as they are demanding, making it ideal for cyclists of all skill levels. The central location of the city ensures easy access, while the altitude of 1877m above sea level provides a temperate climate.

GFNY San Luis Potosí began in 2025 and immediately became the GFNY North American Championship, closing the GFNY season with a demanding high-altitude climbing course dominated by the La Placa ascent.

The 2026 GFNY San Luis Potosi has designed the perfect route and offers a little bit of everything for everyone to enjoy. There are two routes, the 123km Gran Fondo with 1,916m of climbing and the 76km Medio Fondo with 1,026m of climbing.

The race begins in the historic center of San Luis Potosí, touring the emblematic places of the city, such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Municipal Palace and Morales Park. It offers participants a unique combination of cultural heritage and high speed in the first few kilometres.

The decisive moment begins just outside the city, before Pozuelos, where you will begin a 13 km ascent, with an average gradient of 3% and a maximum of 7.9%. This ascent will test your endurance and strategy, offering minimal relief, but maximum satisfaction upon completion. Once at the top, you'll enjoy panoramic views of San Luis Potosi and the Sierra de San Miguelito, a unique interplay between the tranquility of nature and the energy of the city.

After the ascent, the circuit transforms into a fluid descent on wide roads with views of the Sierra. Upon returning to the city, be prepared for the enthusiasm of the public on your way to the finish line. You will pass through Tangamanga Park and emblematic places such as the Glorieta Benito Juárez, before the final stretch towards the city center.

Medio Fondo riders will cross the finish line here, while long-route riders will prepare for a second lap to celebrate the victory. This route is designed not only as a physical and tactical battlefield, but also as a display of resilience and strategy.

Off the bike, participants and their families can immerse themselves in the local culture, savoring the authentic gastronomy and enjoying the atmosphere that makes this region an unforgettable place. GFNY San Luis Potosí invites you to compete, explore, and discover a destination that promises an extraordinary mix of competition, culture, and natural wonders.

Only Gran Fondo finishers are eligible for category rankings and overall and podium awards. If you want to compete and be classified in your category, you must complete the long route. The Top 10% of finishers in each age group earn a spot in the Qualifier Corral at each GFNY World event.
