Good news Fondo Fans. Despite the horrendous hurricaine, Gran Fondo Hincapie-Greenville is still taking place on October 19th, 2024.

George, Rich and the Hincapie family have released the following statement to us today:

"Recent weeks have underscored the resilience of our beloved local communities. The impact of Hurricane Helene has left a profound mark, and our hearts go out to those affected. Yet, amidst the devastation, we are reminded of our collective power to create meaningful change in the places we cherish and call home."

"WE WILL BE HOLDING THE GRAN FONDO HINCAPIE-GREENVILLE ON OCTOBER 19TH, 2024."

"OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE ONE MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE POLK COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION."

"AND YES, MARK CAVENDISH, BRADLEY WIGGINS, JAN ULLRICH & JOLANDA NEFF WILL BE THERE TO HELP US RAISE MONEY FOR OUR COMMUNITIES AND TO RIDE WITH US!"

"Together, we will give back to the communities that have always been there for us. We will ride new routes exclusively within Greenville County, with the full support of local authorities. We appreciate your patience as we’ve worked tirelessly to make this event a reality. Our primary concern has been ensuring that we can gather safely and without straining the resources of the communities most affected by the storm. After extensive discussions with Greenville County, we’ve crafted a plan that prioritizes safety while also supporting our friends in need."

"For over 14 years, we’ve been uplifted by the generosity of our neighbors in Polk County—always there for us without expectation. Now, they need our help more than ever. We are mobilizing to raise One Million Dollars to aid Polk County residents in their recovery efforts. We apologize for the delay in communication. We understand the eagerness surrounding the Gran Fondo Hincapie event, but we wanted to respect the urgent needs of our local officials and first responders."

About Hurricane Helene

Helene is one of the deadliest hurricanes to strike the US mainland in the last 50 years.

As of October 1, the death toll from Hurricane Helene has surpassed 130 people across six states, and that figure could rise over the coming days as hundreds are still reported missing. What’s more, the associated economic damages are estimated to be somewhere around $150 billion.

President Joe Biden directed 1,000 troops to western North Carolina to assist with ongoing recovery efforts as the hard-hit region continues to struggle in Helene’s wake.
