Lachan Morton and Holocomb take victory at 13th edition of Rock Cobbler

On a brutal, shenanigan-filled day of cyclocross, gravel and sheer grit, Australian Lachan Morton (UCI WorldTeam EF Education–EasyPost) rode to a commanding victory at the 13th annual World Famous Rock Cobbler event on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Tackling the Boulder route’s 115 miles and more than 12,000 feet of vertical ascent — including multiple get-off-and-push sections — Morton crossed the line in 5:59:17, nearly 23 minutes clear of former pro road racer Brandon Baker (6:21:42) and roughly 35 minutes ahead of Tour Divide competitor Everett Werner (6:34:13).

The Rock Cobbler delivered the mix of endurance, technical terrain and unpredictable conditions that has become its hallmark. 750 racers faced steep climbs, loose descents androute quirks that forced riders off their saddles and onto their feet across long sections. Morton’s margin of victory underscored both his climbing strength and his ability to handle the event’s relentless changing terrain and tactical chaos.

Shorter-course races drew strong fields and tight finishes. In the 75-mile Cobbler, 2024 USA Gravel National Champion Thomas Fuller claimed first place in a swift 4:10:11, edging out Kash Steele (4:14:36) and Nathan Barton (4:18:56). The women’s Cobbler podium was led by 2025 Lifetime UNBOUND Gravel runner-up Ruth Holcomb, who finished in 4:42:18, followed by Siena Hermon (5:23:45) and Cal Hobson (5:27:00).

Leading the 50-mile Pebblers back was Riley Sato (3:36:26) for the women and and Carlos Hernandez (3:19:29) for the men.

These results highlight the depth of talent across disciplines, from elite road and gravel pros to endurance specialists stepping up to test themselves on Rock Cobbler’s unforgiving courses.

“We set out to challenge riders with routes that reward patience, bike handling and pure resilience,” said Race Director Sam Ames. “Today’s conditions and the Boulder route did exactly that. Lachan rode a measured, powerful race and showed what happens when experience meets the right preparation. We’re proud of every person who finished — the event is about pushing limits, sharing stories and celebrating the bike in all its forms.”

Now in its 13th year, the World Famous Rock Cobbler continues to attract a diverse field of elite racers, gravel specialists and adventure cyclists drawn to its unique blend of racing and camaraderie. Organizers say course design will continue to evolve to preserve the event’s spirit of challenge and fun while prioritizing rider safety.
