Over 850 Cyclists joined George and Enzo Hincapie at Gran Fondo Chattanooga

Over 850 cyclists took part in Hincapie's Gran Fondo Chattanooga last weekend, despite challenging conditions with heavy rain there were endless of smiles all round and a great post-ride celebration afterwards.

Friday night with the Stars presented by Tower Community Bank was a truly memorable evening in Chattanooga with so many enjoying incredible food, great company, and that special energy that comes before a big day with top rated wine, all in the ambiance of the twinkling lights and the quiet garden of the Waterhouse Pavilion at Miller Plaza.

With 15, 50, and 80-mile routes on the Saturday, the Gran Fondo Hincapie-Chattanooga offered rides for every skill level with picturesque views of the Tennessee River and the city of Chattanooga. The 80-mile Gran included epic climbs and challenging descents.
 
Out on course participants benefitted from SAG support and fully-stocked rest stops along the way.
 
George and Enzo Hincapie wore bib numbers 1 and 2. Rain and Misty climbs were no problem and everyone tackled every turn like a legend!

In the men's Gran Fondo, 11 riders got into the breakaway. At the finish line Carson Yoder from Sarasota FL outsprinted Gray Barnett from Greenville SC and Oakley Griffin from Fayetteville AR in a time of 3:24:49.
 
In the women's Gran Fondo, Leigh Ruston from Arlington attacked and soloed to the finish in 3:49:48. Behind Debbie Milne from Greenville SC was second followed by Sarah Breaux from Saluda NC in third place.
 
In the Medio Fondo, Hans Halaixt from Greer was fastest in a time of 2:28:00 and Lauren Kukis from Simpsonville SC was fastest for the women in a time of 2:46:41 for the women.
 
In the Piccolo Fondo Bryson Porter from White GA was fastest in a time of 39:49 and Cary Brown from Chattanooga TN was fastest for the women in a time of 41:45.
 
There were also KOM/QOM awards for the climbs of Suck Creek and Sequatchie climbs and age category awards for all three distances.
 
Family and friends were all invited to Gran Fondo Hincapie’s Family Festival. They enjoyed free food, drinks, live music, and festivities with children’s bike races and a fully equipped bouncy park to keep everyone entertained.

Next up is Lehigh Valley on May 31st in PA!

On Saturday at 8 a.m., starting from the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, Gran riders will head out of the stadium and venture onto the best roads that Lehigh Valley has to offer. Over approximately 80 miles, riders will take on 13 sectors of ‘Pennsylvania Pavé’, seven bergs (short steep climbs), approximately seven miles of gravel riding, three covered bridges, and the stadium atmosphere of a finish at the Velodrome.  Speed Zones along the course are designed to challenge riders, showcase their speed and skill, and keep everyone safe, allowing participants to push their limits and vie for top honors in a friendly competition.

Below are the course specifics for each of the three distances:

Gran - 81 miles, 5800 ft of elevation, 4 rest stops, 5 timed Speed Zones
Medio - 53 miles, 3600 ft of elevation, 2 rest stops, 3 timed Speed Zones
Piccolo - 14 miles, 830 ft of elevation, 1 Speed Zone

To commence the weekend festivities, on Friday night, all Gran Fondo Hincapie participants will get a free entry to the American Classic, which is the kickoff event for track season at Valley Preferred Cycling Center. Hincapie participants are invited to join for a night under the lights filled with high adrenalin racing and excitement. The races start at 7 p.m. with a fireworks finale. For those looking to elevate their Friday night experience at the Velodrome, a Night with the Stars dinner will take place on the upper VIP deck. This event features food stations, top-rated wine, and a chance to mingle with George and other VIP guests – it’s the best pre-ride party you can imagine. Tickets for this VIP dining experience are available now.

Gran Fondo Hincapie events attract cyclists of all abilities with their perfect mix of challenging courses, breathtaking views, and a welcoming community of riders.
