Roach and De Luna win 2025 GFNY Bahamas Gran Fondo

Hundreds of riders from across the globe took on the second annual event in the Bahamas

Nassau, the vibrant capital of the Bahamas, hosted the second edition of GFNY Bahamas on Sunday. Riders from over 20 countries and across the globe tackled the 60.8-mile course filled with the breathtaking beauty of the Caribbean. Start and finish were held at Goodman’s Bay, a park overlooking turquoise waters and white sandy beaches, the perfect backdrop for world-class bike racing.

In the women’s race, the 19-year old local talent Kami Roach (Enjoy Cycling Club) outsprinted Rachel Liberatore (USA – Triangle Cyclist), who just came fresh off a third place finish at Michelob ULTRA GFNY Maryland, in a time of 2:32:19. Adriana Maciel Mendes Vilela from Brazil completed the podium just a few seconds back.

In the men’s race, Mexican Flavio De Luna (Team GFNY) was out for revenge. The former pro, multiple GFNY podium finisher and GFNY Cozumel and Mexico City champion, had been on a 100km solo attack at Michelob ULTRA GFNY Maryland just a month earlier, only to be caught with 2km to go. Two days later he was back on the trainer, doing heat acclimation training in winter apparel. On Sunday, he held back for the first 25 km but then decided to break away again. But this time it was with the support of two Brazilians: Alessandro Zarzenon (Team Muller) and Renan Couto (Team Pan Brods), who has two top 10 finishes at Brazilian GFNYs on his palmarés.

The three worked well together and had a lead of two minutes ahead of a group of 25 by the time they completed the first of two loops on the eastern part of New Providence island. With 10km to go, the lead had swollen to almost five minutes so the podium finishers were set. De Luna didn’t want to let it come to a sprint so he used a slight incline with 3km – and never looked back. He took the win in 2:21:27 followed by Zarzenon who outsprinted Couto.

“A huge THANK YOU to the Bahamas for making our GFNY riders’ dreams come true,” said GFNY President Lidia Fluhme after the race. “Because of the island’s support, riders got to challenge themselves in this spectacular setting. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to host a GFNY there.”
