Gravel del Fuego: the Southernmost Ultra Cycling Race in the World—and one of the most beautiful too!

In the world of Ultra Cycling, where distances push the boundaries of human endurance, Gravel del Fuego emerges as an extraordinary milestone. Held at the southern tip of the planet, this event has earned its place as the southernmost Ultra Cycling race in the world, challenging the boldest cyclists to go beyond the Southern Ice Fields.

The race takes place in April, a month when wind gusts are significantly lower than in summer and average rainfall is also reduced. It's cold, but with the right gear, the challenge is entirely manageable.

With demanding course options of 170, 250, and 1000 kilometers, Gravel del Fuego embraces the nonstop format—where the clock never stops, and athletes dive into an epic odyssey. Self-sufficiency is key: participants must organize their own food and rest throughout the route. While some choose to sleep each night, others continue pedaling without pause.

The 250-kilometer distance, a challenge in itself, can be conquered in less than a day.

However, it’s the 1000-kilometer route that truly tests human limits. With a deadline of 6.5 days to complete the journey, cyclists face a monumental challenge.

The 250-kilometer route begins in Puerto Natales, winding through the majestic Torres del Paine National Park and passing through the iconic Milodon Cave, before returning to Puerto Natales via gravel roads, offering an incomparable natural setting.

The 1000-kilometer route starts by sharing the initial 250 kilometers, then heads south, diving into the vast Patagonian Pampas until reaching the border with Argentina. From Villa San Gregorio to the ferry crossing toward the Isla Grande of Tierra del Fuego, cyclists explore unmatched landscapes, passing landmarks such as Porvenir, the King Penguin Reserve, Cameron, Lago Blanco, Pampa Guanaco in the commune of Timaukel, and Karukinka Park before reaching the final destination at Caleta María.

Gravel del Fuego is not just a race—it’s a challenge that tests the will and courage of cyclists, leading them to discover the majesty of the southernmost landscapes on Earth as they conquer kilometers.

The race includes both solo and team (duo) categories for all distances, adding even more diversity and excitement to this epic adventure.

Gravel del Fuego stands out as one of the most beautiful races in the world.

Safety is a top priority for the organizers. To ensure it, each athlete receives a GPS system for real-time tracking at all times. In addition, with a fleet of 8 support vehicles, we are able to provide assistance to participants, ensuring their safety in such a challenging environment as southern Chile.
