Team Bora-Hansgrohe riders hit by car while training in Northern Italy

Seven Bora-Hansgrohe riders were out training when they were involved in an accident with a car on Saturday, three riders taken to hospital

The team confirmed the incident during their training camp around Lake Garda, three riders were taken to hospital with two sustaining concussions while the third was awaiting a further examination.

According to a short statement from Bora-Hansgrohe, the three riders are Wilco Kelderman, Rudiger Selig and Andreas Schillinger.

Kelderman and Selig sustained concussions and further examinations are taking place.

The other riders Marcus Burghardt, Anton Palzer, Maximilian Schachmann and Michael Schwarzmann also involved in the incident are now reportedly back at the team hotel and only have minor injuries.

Bora rider Ide Schelling wrote on Strava: "Big crash with a car in my group, all guys crashed. I have a little safe angel on my shoulder as I was one of the only ones who decided to not go for the extra half-hour."

Latest Bora-Hansgrohe update on accident at team camp, "Today during training, several of our riders were involved in an accident with a car, which crossed the road and rode into our training group. Wilco Kelderman, Rüdiger Selig and Andreas Schillinger were taken to hospital, all conscious. Wilco sustained a concussion and a fractured vertebrae. Andreas sustained broken vertebrae in the cervical and thoracic spine. For both riders, we're aiming for conservative treatment. Rudi has also sustained a concussion, but no fractures."
