BMC dominate Tirreno-Adriatico Team Time Trial

BMC Racing Team has won the first stage of the 2017 Tirreno-Adriatico. The squad was 17 seconds faster than Quick-Step Floors in the day's Team Time Trial

The first stage of the 2017 Tirreno-Adriatico was a Team Time Trial of 22-7 kilometers with a start and a finish in the Lido di Camairo beach.

Lotto-Soudal was one of the strongest teams was top of the leader board for some time. But Movistar had other ideas, with the lead of Jonathan Castroviejo and beat the time of the Belgian squad.

BMC were the last team to depart as last year's winners with van Avermaet overall champion of the 2016 edition of the race. Favourites to win they didn't disappoint by stopping the clock at 23 minutes and 20 seconds.

The American team was 17 seconds faster than Quick-Step Floors and 22 seconds faster than FDJ, which did an outstanding performance. Movistar and Orica-Scott completed the top five of the day.

Damiano Caruso leads the General Classification followed by Rohan Denis, Greg van Avermaet, Stefan Küng and Daniel Oss from the BMC team

Meanwhile Team Sky had an awful day as Gianni Mosconi's front wheel, which lost it's tire, collapsed into dust - send him spalling across the road.

The race kicks off on March 8 with a team time trial around Lido di Camaiore on the same relatively simple 22.7km course that saw BMC Racing take victory in 2016, setting Greg Van Avermaet up for overall victory.
