Mikel Landa: "I do not want to be second in any team"
Mikel Landa of the Sky team made it clear in the rest day that he will not return " to be second " in any team, but stated Chris Froom is superior to him and that the Briton will be able to count on his work to win the 2017 Tour de France, at the same time as personally seeking a position on the podium.
"I am clear that this will not happen to me again. You have to keep things clear. I do not want to be second" said Landa moments before training on the rest day of Tour de France.
Landa, sixth in the GC standings, sees similarity between the current situation of his team and that which took place in 2012 between Froome and Bradley Wiggins in the same British team. "The situation is similar but you have to keep in mind that in this Tour, Froome will win because it has a good time trial on the penultimate day. We are partners, not rivals" he said.
The situation almost identical to the one that Landa experienced with Astana in 2015, when the Giro team slowed him down to help the leader, Fabio Aru. He finished third in the Giro. "Yes, the truth is that a little yes it reminds me.It is a situation already lived.I know what I came to the Tour and that is what it is. It reminds me of Astana times, but now we are playing to win the Tour , not to be second" he said.
However, Landa believes that for Team Sky "It would be nice to win with Froome and have me on the podium in Paris. We are pretty happy, and I have the same form as the first week. It's a good group of people and there is good vibe in the team".
