Spring is returning to the western hemisphere and it won't be long before the clocks go forward on March 31st!
The 2019 Granfondo Nice Côte d'Azur taking place March 31st 2019, was founded by French cycling club Sprinter club de Nice as a way to honor the return of warm weather to the region of Nice, as former race "la Charly Bérard" was used to do until 5 years ago.
The mass participation Gran Fondo is part of the 2019 Gran Fondo World Tour Series, where series points for overall cash prizes of $36,000 USD will be on offer!
There are two distances on offer, the 101km Medio Fondo and the 129 km Gran Fondo, the courses are mountainous and cyclists can typically enjoy the wonderful weather on the French south coast this time of year.
The Gran Fondo contains the climbs of Colmar d'Aspremont (8.7 km, 510m of climbing, 5.8%), Col St Roch (21.15 km, 793m of climbing, 3.7%) and the Col de Nice (1km, 50m of climbing, 5%).
The Col St Roch climb includes some descnding, but it becomes less difficult with an average gradient of 7% and in some portions with an average gradient of 12%. Some of these climbs have featured in the Paris-Nice professional race.
Organiser stated "We would like to become the race at the start of the Cyclosportive and Gran Fondo season not just in Europe, but worldwide"
The Granfondo Nice Côte d'Azur is also the opening race of the "Trophy label d'or FFC" that includes some of the French Cyclosportives and Gran Fondos.
