Cognet and Scharer lead GFWT Series ranking after Trilogy de Maurienne
Stephanie Cognet in the lead ahead of Jonas Orset, Nikia Fedorin and ex-professional Davide Rebellin in the mens competition. Celine Scharer in the lead ahead of Kira Voekler and Caroline Vamnes in the women's competition.
Renowned as one of the hardest cycling events in France, the Trilogy de Maurienne is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, hundreds of riders took on the challenge of 3 days of competition over climbs made famous in the Tour de France, the Lacets of Montvernier, Col du Chaussy, Madeleine, Col de la Croix de Fer, Glandon, Mollard and the Col du Galibier.
Riders gathered from 12 different nations to take part.
In the mens competition Stephane Cognet and defending champion Jonas Orset rode with Stephane Gognet taking 1,087 GFWT series points ahead of Orset who took 1,032 points. Jon Breisvold was third and took the default 1,000 GFWT series points.
Celine Scharer is in the lead ahead of Kira Voekler and Caroline Vamnes in the women's competition.
There are just 5 events left, 3 in North America, the Prospera Valley Gran Fondo, Bluewater International Gran Fondo and the Rollfast Gran Fondo. In Asia the Gran Fondo Silk Way in September culminating in the series final at the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic in October.
