Skull 120 Gravel Fondo

Skull 120 Gravel Fondo

June 16 - June 17 2018
Burns, Oregon, USA
The Skull is challenging to say the least. The course and the landscape are amazing. Organized by Harney County, BLM, USFS volunteers and locals who are all extremely nice.

"An instant classic, no part of the route is impossible but it is challenging for hours on end. The course is rough and rugged enough to make traditional road bikes with rim brakes a non-starter but fast and varied enough to make squishy mountain bikes equally inappropriate." Eric Herboth, Owner REN Cycles.

Harney County is home to endless opportunity for the self-sufficient backcountry traveler. Visitors who seek challenge and solitude will find these in abundance.

The Skull 120/60 Gravel Grind route highlights the county's rugged character which sets rural #EasternOregon apart from the rest of the nation. From long mountainous ascents, to teeth-chattering and eye watering descents, breathtaking vistas, open rangeland, alpine forests, two stream crossings, and - of course - cattle guard after cattle guard, this gravel grind is a feat to finish and a testament to the rider's grit and determination.

Routes traverse miles of Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service public lands, official sponsors of the Skull 120/60.

Skinny Tires Less than 35c Need Not Apply...

We solemnly swear this will be one of the most challenging single day events you do this year. All Skull routes are strategically designed to showcase the immense diversity of Eastern Oregon's landscapes. This means riders will be pressed throughout the race with a variety new challenges to overcome.

Steel yourself and your bike for rutted cattle paths, old logging roads, and huge climbs. We HIGHLY recommend all participants use tires with widths greater than 40c. Disk brakes are also encouraged.

Participants can compete in 120 mile, 60 mile or 30 mile venues. Racers may also sign up for 3 person Team Relays for the 120 mile race ONLY.
