“The energy and enthusiasm at this year’s Granfondo Badlands were palpable,” said TransRockies Event Director, Richelle Love, “We are thrilled to celebrate a decade of cycling in such a stunning location, and we are grateful to all the participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event possible.”
President of Trans Rockies, who puts on the event, Aaron McConnell loves bringing this event back to the badlands. “It is such an amazing community for cycling and so supportive of this event. It is just a beautiful place to riding a bike.”
McConnell loves that his group is able to bring that many people to the Drumheller Valley for this event, which keeps growing and growing. “It’s amazing being one of the biggest cycling events in Alberta now and creating a very inclusive atmosphere for riders of all abilities to go out and enjoy cycling here.”
When they held the event here last July, temperatures were in that 30 degree range. This year, it was quite a bit cooler and some light rain. McConnell shares that no matter the conditions, the race is a go. “We go rain or shine. We definitely hope for some sun but it also kind of nice not to have the heat that we’ve had the last few years.”
The Granfondo Badlands not only showcases the beauty of Alberta’s landscapes but also fosters a sense of community among cyclists of all abilities. As riders crossed the finish line, the camaraderie and spirit of competition were evident, highlighting the event's significance in the cycling calendar.
As the sun set over the Badlands, participants reflected on their achievements and the unforgettable experience of racing through one of Canada’s most unique terrains. With the event now in the books, anticipation for next year’s Granfondo Badlands is already building.

#5 Michelob Ultra GFNY World Championship NYC
The 2025 Gran Premio New York City was won by Christian Sean of Team Skyline, with Brayan Sánchez (Team Medellín–EPM) finishing 2nd and Kasper Andersen (Swatt Club) taking 3rd.
Gran Premio NYC is held on the same course as the long standing mass participation race "GFNY World Championship NYC”, the world’s most international cycling race with rider from over 90 countries.
2025 marked the 14th edition of the GFNY Championship in New York.
Race week activities are centered around the George Washington Bridge and Fort Lee, New Jersey. The GFNY Village location is easily accessible to both New York City and the beautiful Hudson Valley. Group Rides, the Welcome Zone, Registration and Packet Pickup, NYC Bike Expo and the Bike Zone are all located in the GFNY Village.

On race day, both GP NYC and GFNY start on the iconic George Washington Bridge, the world’s busiest bridge, which gets closed to traffic to provide all racers a once-in-a-lifetime experience. At dawn, GFNY cyclists take their places in their start corrals. The sunrise reveals the skyline of New York City to the south, and the picturesque and historic Hudson Valley to the north. The pros will enter the bridge just before their start at 7am, a mere ten minutes before the mass participation race.
The course takes racers through the historic Palisades and up Route 9W. After the initial 10 miles in northern New Jersey, the race continues in New York State along tree lined roads, rolling hills, and fast flats, at times so close to the banks of the historic Hudson river that you can reach out and touch it.
The climbing begins in earnest at Mott Farm Road. Gate Hill and Cheesecote are the named climbs but there are several others. Winding through picturesque Rockland County, the course will then get back to the Palisades. With two miles to go, the final climb to the finish line in Fort Lee begins.
The entire finish village is alive with music, photos, podium ceremonies and a well-earned post-race meal for all racers. The Drink Stand, Pasta Party, BBQ and Beer and Wine Garden are open to cyclists, families and spectators and have food and drinks available for purchase.
All this makes GP NYC and GFNY an extraordinary, unforgettable bike party and the Mecca of GFNY.

The race unfolded on a fast, urban-to-suburban course, blending flat sections through Manhattan with rolling terrain toward Fort Lee. The peloton stayed largely intact, with several breakaway attempts neutralized by strong team coordination.
Early attacks came from development squads (Alpecin-Deceuninck Dev Team, Nu Colombia), but none gained decisive ground. Team Medellín–EPM and Swatt Club worked to keep the pace high, preventing long escapes.
In the closing kilometers, Team Skyline positioned Christian Sean perfectly. He launched a powerful sprint, holding off Sánchez and Andersen at the line.
Christian Sean’s victory is notable as he’s only 23, marking a breakthrough for Team Skyline on the international stage. The top riders all finished in the same time, showing how tightly contested the sprint finale was.

#4 Bluewater International Gran Fondo
Sunny Blue Skies for 1,000 Lucky Cyclists at 2025 Bluewater International Gran Fondo
Just over 1,000 cyclists rolled through Lambton County in beautiful weather last Sunday for the ninth annual big ride, which raises funds for palliative care. To date, more than $520,000 has been raised!
The Granfondo which started in 2016, has routes ranging from 30 km to 150 km for all abilities. It missed one year during the pandemic but has been held annually, otherwise.
The 9th edition started early last Sunday morning in Mike Weir Park and racers returned at various times to a meal and live music. The race included timed sections, but not start and finishing times found in traditional racing formats. That allows cyclists to take their time between timed sections, stop at fuel stations along the route and enjoy the ride.

In the 150km Bluewater ride, Chris Caruana was fastest over the 4 timed sections in 39:20.5, ahead of Simao Santa Barbara (39:21.2) in second and Scott Elliott (40:01.8) in third place. In the women's category, Debbie Levasseur was fastest in 42:19.0, ahead of Erika Hendrick in second (42:20.5) and Marie Esper (42:52.2) in third place.
In the 100km Lambton ride, Curtis Manzys was fastest over the three timed sections in 28:36.4 ahead of Kelly Johnson (28:40.6) in second and Peter Cobb (28:43.3) in third place. In the women’s category, Laura Drope was fastest in 28:51.4 ahead of Maria Teresa Gonzalez Coubert (30:29.7) in second place and Kate Schieman (31:55.5) in third place.
In the 50km Sarnia ride, Jerry Mangiarelli was fastest over the one timed section in 12:39.0, ahead of Kent Gore (12:39.0) in second place and Simone Palombi (12:44.8) in third place. In the women’s category, Natalie McCormick was fastest (13:07.3) ahead of Heather Baxter (13:08.4) in second place and Angie Smith (13:15.3) in third place).

The event also continued to host the First Responder Championships on the 100 km course.
Shawn Gillespie was fastest over the three timed sections in 29:02.5 ahead of Todd Forrest (30:29.9) in second place and Jon Grimwood (30:59.5) in third place. In the women's category, Dani Girard was fastest in 32:55.5, ahead of Carley Warner (34:51.5) in second and Jennifer Randel (38:37.1) in third place.
The Shelly Rastin Band performed live for participants after they finished in Mike Weir Park.

The event has now raised over $500,000 for palliative care in the community.
Ken McAlpine co-founder of the ride commented "Another successful 9th Annual Bluewater International Granfondo in the books! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this year, participants, sponsors, volunteers, and all the incredible people behind the scenes! We’re buzzing with excitement and can’t wait to share tons of amazing photos over the next few days, these moments are too good not to share"
Dan Tice, who is on the committee that runs the event, said this year’s version went really well, “These guys are pros,” he said of his fellow organizers. “It helps the overall event for everybody because you know even when you show up everything’s in front of your face, the food’s great.”

@madeofmaure said afterwards “Another weekend of cycling fun at the Bluewater International GranFondo. I competed in the 50km & Dan the 100km. I set so many new PR’s on the route and came in 9th for my age category! A huge thank you to all the staff & volunteers for @bigranfondo who put on another successful event! You guys rock! Can’t wait for next year!“

#3 Levi's Gran Fondo
Levi's GranFondo reimagined professional road racing on American soil by offering a $156,000+ prize purse, and a globally streamed live broadcast that is free to watch.
The event uniquely offers a mass-participation amature Gran Fondo in addition to Skipstone's open Growler Road Race.
2026 will be the 18th edition of the event which provides routes of varying distances to accommodate all levels of cyclists.
Levi's GranFondo long recognized that the popularity of highly publicized American road racing is what inspired the event, and caused it to quickly become one of the most celebrated events in the world 17 years ago.
But road races with media coverage in the United States have vanished from American soil - that was until the 2nd edition of the Growler.

Levi's GranFondo, the annual mass-participation road cycling event in Sonoma County, will livestream the last two hours of its professional road race, The Growler, and will be available to watch globally. The 3rd edition of the Growler race streams April 26, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. PT on levisgranfondo.com.
In a breath-taking display of endurance and skill, Utah native Keegan Swenson captured his second consecutive victory at the Levi’s Gran Fondo Growler race on Saturday, solidifying his status as one of the top gravel competitors in the cycling world

The race, renowned for its challenging mixed surface of 138 miles and a staggering 14,000 feet of climbing, saw Swenson crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 5:55:38, achieving an average speed of 23.3 mph. In a dramatic finale, Swenson caught and dropped competitors Marcis Shelton and Conn McDumphy in the last kilometer, securing a $25,000 winner’s check and the coveted title once again.

The Growler race was open to anyone who wished to compete and there was no requirement to qualify. Professional athletes will race head to head along with others, vying for a slice of a substantial cash purse! Anyone who races the Growler is eligible. This is your chance to shine.
“I knew it was going to be tough, but I was ready for the challenge,” said Swenson after the race. “The competition was fierce, especially with riders like Marcis and Conn pushing me to my limits. Winning this race two years in a row is an incredible feeling, and I’m grateful for the support from my team and fans.”
Conn McDumphy from Ireland secured second with a finish time that earned him $15,000, Marcis Shelton, a promising 20-year-old cyclist from the United States, claimed third place, earning $10,000, while South Africa's Matt Beers rounded out the top four, taking home $7,000.
The Levi’s Gran Fondo attracted over 1,500 riders this year. Participants had the option to choose from several routes, including a 120-mile Gran, an 86-mile Geyers, a 68-mile Medio, and a 45-mile Piccolo, all set against the stunning backdrop of Sonoma wine country, just north of San Francisco.
“This year’s event was nothing short of spectacular,” said Event Director, Carlos Perez, “The atmosphere was electric, and witnessing such fierce competition in the Growler race was a highlight for everyone involved. We are proud to host an event that brings together cyclists from all backgrounds and skill levels to celebrate our shared passion for cycling.”
The Levi’s Gran Fondo continues to grow in popularity, drawing cyclists from across the globe who seek both challenge and camaraderie. With its scenic routes and competitive spirit, the event not only promotes physical fitness but also fosters a sense of community among cycling enthusiasts.
In the women's race Lauren Stephens attacked on the Geysers climb to solo to the finish, ahead of a 5 rider chase group including defending champion Lauren de Crescenzo, Alia Shafi, Sofia Gomez Villafane, Gwendalyn Gibson and Axelle Duau-Prevot. Over 75 women started the pro race, a testament to the sheer demand and popularity of women's racing.

Chapeau to Levi Leipheimer, Bike Monkey and all the race Sponsors for making it the biggest bike race in America!

Why ride Levi’s GranFondo?
Levi's GranFondo has always offered routes for a wide range of fitness and ability levels. From a casual ride on relatively flat ground through the bucolic wine region to the highly competitive.

Sonoma County is home to nearly 1,400 miles of rural roads that wind through 1,700 square miles of stunning landscapes. These roads stretch to remote ridgelines, offering unmatched views and tranquility. They’ve shaped world-class cyclists like Levi Leipheimer, Peter Stetina, Tyler Williams, Luke Lamperti, and siblings Vida and Ian Lopez de San Ramon—many of whom first discovered their potential right here.
But riding these roads in such a fashion as to punish yourself into becoming the next world champion isn’t the right flavor for everyone. The hills, terrain, and logistics of riding such distances, and so remotely can be daunting. That’s where Levi’s GranFondo comes in.
Behind the new Growler race, there is the 11 mile Family route, 22 mile Piccolino, 40 mile Piccolino, 63 miles Medio Fondo, 81 mile Geysers, 120 Gran Fondo and of course the 139 Growler, the toughest route with over 12,000 feet of climbing and includes the torturous climb of King Ridge Road, the endless climbs on Stewarts Point Road and steep 13% gradients of The Geysers.
Everyone will start and finish together. It is the organizers belief that this change is a necessary improvement to the overall feeling of accomplishment at Levi's GranFondo, regardless of which route you challenged yourself to.
The 100 mile Gran Fondo, the biggest and most popular distance, a definitive cycling experience in northern California that mustn’t be missed. From the damp redwood forests at the base of King Ridge to the 360-degree panoramas at the top. And if you think the climbs are amazing, the descents back down to Sonoma will stay with you for the rest of your days!
Ahead of you is an unforgettable day’s cycling, with a mass start, full support on course and full emergency services. Several aid stations, each with whole foods as well as on-bike liquid and gel energy.
What Makes Levi’s GranFondo Different?
When you join, you’re not just riding—you’re part of an extraordinary experience designed to make every mile unforgettable. Seven carefully curated routes—totaling nearly 500 miles—offer something for every rider, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro.

#1 Gran Fondo Maryland
2026 will welcome the 15th edition of Gran Fondo Maryland, the final event in 2026 SENA Gran Fondo National Series which doubles up as the 2026 USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships.
Reuben Kline is the visionary behind the Gran Fondo National Series in the U.S., and he’s credited with reshaping American road cycling by introducing a more inclusive and dynamic format inspired by more traditional European events.
Reuben's passion for cycling is immeasurable. He began working in the bike industry over 30 years ago. He's worked as a bike mechanic, bike sales, bike fitter, managed retail bike shops, started his own cycle touring company, and was involved with producing nearly a hundred endurance sports events prior to starting the Gran Fondo National Series in 2012.
On the bike, he has explored the world, competed as a pro mountain bike racer, road racer, and raced elite cyclocross. Reuben starred in the award-winning documentary film Ride the Divide. In Reuben’s words: “Simply put I believe in the bike©. Through cycling, I have found myself, I have shared myself, and I have enjoyed myself. My approach to cycling is not one of simple physical fitness, it is a philosophy of life which focuses every bit as much on mental enrichment as it does the physical body.”

Gran Fondo is an Italian term and roughly translates to "Big Ride", which started in Italy in the 1970's and are traditionally timed from start to finish, like traditional cycling races and marathons. Reuben’s interpretation focuses more on how a traditional road race varies from a gran fondo and he defines a gran fondo as “A long distance road cycling event that is both competitive and recreational.” In creating the Series, he has implemented the use of time sections to accomplish his vison of how to share road racing with a broader group of people.

In the past, cycling wasn’t a very user-friendly sport that encouraged people of all ages and abilities to get into road cycling and engage in a competitive format that was safe and fun. Reuben's new U.S. Gran Fondo Format revolutionized this.
Reuben’s version of the Gran Fondo blends competitive racing with social riding, creating events that cater to all levels of cyclists and abilities.
- Timed Segments: Instead of timing the entire course, only specific segments are timed. These segments are usually as short as 2 miles and some over 10 miles in length. Riders can race hard during those sections and then regroup afterward to enjoy the scenery and connect with other riders.
- Mass Start: Everyone starts together, creating a festive, marathon-like atmosphere.

- Multiple Distances: Events typically offer Gran (long), Medio (medium), and Piccolo (short) routes to accommodate different fitness and ability levels.
- Safety & Support - police escorts to roll out the start, safety motos, marshals, and mechanical support.
- Scenery: Best Marked Courses you’ll ever experience, so you can enjoy the Breathtaking Scenery
- Social: Encourages participants to work together, ride with friends and or teams, and make new friends in the process.
- Experience: Start / Finish Expo with post-ride festivities, gourmet food and Artisan Alcoholic refreshments
- Maximum Fun: Over $5,000 USD raffle of cycling gear, awards, prizes at each event
Reuben’s goal was to make cycling events more welcoming and goal-oriented, especially for those who felt alienated by traditional road racing. He likens the format to running marathons—where only a few compete to win, but everyone has personal goals.
“How many people enter a marathon thinking they are going to win? “Asked Reuben, “but in traditional road racing it’s only the person who wins, as in 1st place that is, who gets the recognition. It’s always been a joke that 2nd place in the first loser in road racing.” I saw the advance of high-speed timing technology in the endurance sports industry and along with it the potential to pioneer a new format in competitive road cycling that shared the sport I love with more people, and make racing a road bike an inclusive sport that is more fun for more people.”
With timed sections, it’s not just about getting through the course as fast as possible. The timed sections are anywhere from 2 to 10 miles in distance. This actively encourages anyone to participate "no matter what their ability is". People can make the ride into whatever they want, be it a social ride with their friends, family, and teammates, or shooting for a National Championship title on some of the most challenging and demanding road course in the nation. From experienced cyclists to complete novices there's a place for everyone at Gran Fondo National Series.
Over the past 14 years the Series has expanded and is now comprised of six events, including the USA Cycling Gran Fondo National Championships all of which are still directed by Reuben. However, the Series extends further to include another half dozen Partner-Events across the United States that he has included to share the sport more broadly.
This format has been so successful, it has increased participation at events across North America and Globally, with more events taking up the more safe and inclusive format than ever before.
As a result, women and juniors are now taking up the sport of cycling in record numbers.
