La Vuelta a España Moves to September in 2027 Due to UCI Super World Championships
The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has confirmed the 2027 WorldTour calendar, announcing significant scheduling changes that will shift the dates of La Vuelta a España to September for the 2027 season. The adjustment is required to accommodate the UCI’s “Super World Championships,” a consolidated multi-discipline event held every four years.

Madrid, Spain — Traditionally staged from mid-August to mid-September, La Vuelta a España will run later than usual in 2027, taking place from 4–26 September 2027. This contrasts with the 2026 edition, which will be held 22 August – 13 September 2026.
The date change is driven by the 2027 UCI Super World Championships, which will bring together 20 cycling disciplines in a single global event hosted in Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc, France, from 24 August – 5 September 2027. To avoid overlap, the Vuelta has been pushed back by several weeks.
In 2026, the UCI Road World Championships will take place on their usual late-September dates, running 20–27 September 2026 in Canada. However, the expanded 2027 Super Worlds require an earlier slot, prompting the Vuelta’s rescheduling and marking the end of its long-standing tradition as a late-summer fixture.
The UCI also confirmed that the 2027 Tour de France will maintain its standard position on the calendar, running 2–25 July, with the Tour de France Femmes beginning a day earlier and concluding 30 July – 7 August.
Across the season, the 2027 Men’s WorldTour will feature 36 events in 13 countries across four continents, totalling 169 race days. The Women’s WorldTour will include 26 events in 11 countries, amounting to 69 race days.
Looking ahead, the UCI has also adjusted the dates of the 2028 World Championships in Abu Dhabi, moving the event one week later to 22–29 October 2028 to avoid extreme heat and ensure more favourable racing conditions.
