"SoCal's Favorite Ride" returned July 31–August 2, 2026 with Bigger Races, Bigger Prizes and More Family Fun Than Ever
The 16th Annual Tour de Big Bear returned to Big Bear Mountain Resort last weekend, bringing together thousands of cyclists, families, outdoor enthusiasts and industry brands for Southern California's premier high altitude cycling festival.
Hosted by the Big Bear Cycling Association, the Tour de Big Bear is one of the region's most anticipated cycling weekends while giving back to the community. Thanks to support from presenting sponsor Visit Big Bear, the Tour de Big Bear saw record-setting participation growth over the past few years. The 2026 festival weekend attracted 4,000 cyclists and around 10,000 visitors.
The Gran Fondo
The Tour de Big Bear's signature Gran Fondo remained the heart of the weekend, featuring four scenic road rides ranging from 25 to 100 miles with spectacular views through the San Bernardino National Forest while offering riders a welcome escape from Southern California's summer heat thanks to Big Bear's cool mountain temperatures and high-altitude setting.
The 100-mile “The Climb” once again proved to be the festival’s marquee masterpiece, ending in one of the closest finishes in event history. Thomas Sullivan claimed victory by a single second in 4:25:23, edging out Jonas Woodruff of Redlands, who stopped the clock at 4:25:24. Just behind, Giovanni “Yogi” Romero of Escondido completed the podium in 4:25:28 after a thrilling three-way battle up Onyx Summit. In the women’s race, Kasey Edwards of Portola Hills delivered a commanding win in 4:25:46, finishing nearly nineteen minutes ahead of Christine Tran, with Mary Ho of San Diego securing third after a determined solo ride to 5:29:52.
The 70-mile "Grand Tour" saw Tanc Sade of Los Angeles take a decisive men’s victory in 3:22:12, followed by Lucas Holladay of Vista at +3:42 and Jason Chadwick of Concord at +9:18. In the women’s field, Bethany Allen set the pace with a strong 3:37:20, holding off Joanne Kiesanowski of Seattle by 2:25, while Lauren Diaz of Encinitas completed the top three in 3:45:51.
The 50-mile "Valley Tour" produced fast times and tight racing. Christian Cossio of San Diego claimed the men’s win in 2:32:00, with Zack Gilman of El Cajon just 36 seconds behind and Morgan Burnett of San Diego taking third in 2:33:44. The women’s race featured one of the most dominant performances of the weekend as Kimberly Collins of Indio stormed to victory in 2:08:10, well ahead of Marissa Cuoco of Lancaster, with Addyson Stoltzfus securing third in 2:47:04.
The 25-mile "Tour de Big Bear" brought out a mix of junior riders, first-timers and seasoned short-course specialists. Colin Savage took the men’s win in 1:29:12, followed by Ricky Hernandez of Palmdale at +2:05 and Mark Hylkema of Temecula at +5:02. In the women’s race, Kerri Cavish of Costa Mesa delivered a stunning ride, stopping the clock at 30:20 to take the overall win by more than half an hour. Kirsten Larsen of Long Beach finished second in 1:03:32, with Aeryl Lytal of Redondo Beach completing the podium in 1:29:21.
Across all distances, riders were supported by Big Bear’s legendary aid stations, cool mountain temperatures and an energetic festival atmosphere that carried through the entire weekend. With record participation, expanded racing options and standout performances in every category, the 2026 Tour de Big Bear reinforced its reputation as Southern California’s premier high-altitude cycling event.
Onyx Summit KOM and QOM
Competitive riders can once again battled for cash prizes and awards in the iconic KOM/QOM climbing challenges on the legendary Onyx Summit climb during the Gran Fondo and delivered some of the most electrifying moments of the Tour de Big Bear, with elite climbers from across the country pushing themselves to the limit on Southern California’s most iconic ascent. Both the 100-mile and 70-mile fields produced standout performances, tight duels, and breakout rides that defined the 2026 edition of the festival.
In the 100-mile KOM, Thomas Sullivan set the benchmark early with a blistering 24:58, the fastest ascent of the day and one of the quickest ever recorded on the segment. His effort held off former WorldTour pro Phil Gaimon, who finished just 18 seconds back, while Giovanni “Yogi” Romero of Escondido secured third with a powerful 25:39. The top five were separated by barely a minute, with Ryan Karlsberg and Jacob Sussman rounding out the podium positions before the gaps began to open. Veteran climbers Brian McCulloch, Alexis Hernandez, Jonas Woodruff, Koen Ampie, and Brian Washburn completed the top ten, all delivering sub-29-minute rides on the high-altitude ascent.
The 100-mile QOM saw an equally commanding performance from Kasey Edwards, who stormed up Onyx Summit in 29:40, the only woman to break the 30-minute barrier. Her ride put her more than three minutes ahead of Christine Tran, with Mary Ho of San Diego taking third in 36:52. The women’s top ten featured a mix of seasoned climbers and rising talent, including Courtney Sullivan, Rebekah Potter, Diana Kreshek, Megan Irwin, Joy McCulloch, Karine Camara, and Jane Despas, all of whom delivered strong, consistent efforts on the mountain.
In the 70-mile KOM, George Tomasich of Norwalk claimed the top spot with a smooth and controlled 31:30, holding off Spencer Thibideau of Granite Bay by 21 seconds. The battle for third was more spread out, with Jake Quattrocchi of Brea clocking 35:34 to secure the final podium position. The rest of the top ten featured a tight cluster of riders within minutes of each other, including David Scanlan, Nathaniel Canseco, Andrew Min, Anthony Osburn, Efrain Huizar, Alejandro Medina, and Frank Hertel, all showcasing the depth of the 70-mile climbing field.
The 70-mile QOM saw Bethany Allen deliver one of the standout rides of the day, topping the women’s leaderboard with a strong 33:22. She finished more than four minutes ahead of Brigid Freyne of Temecula, while Jacquelyn Ley of Princeton secured third in 41:48. The women’s top ten featured consistent efforts from Natalie Siegler, Sierra Nordberg, Caroline Britton, Joanne Kiesanowski, Karla Preece, Raegan Lunsford, and Marysol Lopez, all of whom conquered the climb with determination and precision.
Across both distances, the Onyx Summit KOM and QOM once again proved why they are the crown jewels of the Tour de Big Bear—rewarding power, pacing, and pure climbing grit. The 2026 edition delivered exceptional performances from both elite and amateur riders, cementing the climb’s reputation as one of the toughest and most celebrated challenges in Southern California cycling.
Gravel Rides
The event's award-winning 25- and 50-mile Gravel Rides continued to showcase Big Bear's world-class mix of scenic fire roads and legendary singletrack, complete with cash prizes and KOM/QOM competitions.
The gravel races at the 2026 Tour de Big Bear delivered some of the weekend’s most dynamic and unpredictable racing, with fast fire roads, punchy climbs and technical singletrack producing decisive gaps across both the Dirty Bear 50-mile and Dirty Cub 25-mile courses. Elite riders, local specialists and first-time gravel racers all converged on Big Bear’s high-altitude terrain, creating a festival atmosphere that matched the intensity of the competition.
The 50-mile Dirty Bear Gravel saw a vintage performance from mountain bike legend Tinker Juarez, who powered to victory in 27:40, holding off Santino Marini by a single second in one of the tightest finishes of the day. Carlos Salazar of Riverside completed the podium in 28:56 after a strong solo chase. The men’s top ten featured a deep field of Southern California gravel talent, including John Phillips, Nathan Adams, Justin Callahan, Noah Andrews, Eric Parker, Jonathan Sawyer and Greg Lindlahr, all finishing within five minutes of Juarez’s winning time.
In the women’s 50-mile race, Piper Lowinger of San Francisco delivered a commanding ride, taking the win in 35:09. She finished nearly three minutes ahead of Mia Gallagher, with Sarah Hill of Running Springs securing third in 39:32. The rest of the top ten showcased the depth of the women’s gravel field, with strong rides from Lynn Faust, Seanna Robles, Ricki Reincke, Brandi Edwards, Brenda Morales, Heather Hall and Ash Kramer, all conquering the demanding course with determination.
The 25-mile Dirty Cub Gravel brought a different kind of intensity, with a mix of developing riders, local specialists and gravel newcomers taking on the shorter but still challenging loop. Sebastian Calvo of Irvine claimed the men’s win in 1:47:43, with Kai Ostergard of Los Angeles finishing just over a minute behind. Milo Brody of La Cañada Flintridge rounded out the podium in 1:48:49. The men’s top ten remained tight through the mid-pack, with John Blakely, Mason Gaw, Darrel Divine, Josiah Hunten, James Epperson, Tyler Morrill and Nathan Swift all finishing within eleven minutes of the leader.
In the women’s 25-mile race, An De Vooght of Agoura Hills delivered a standout performance, taking the win in 1:50:16 and finishing ahead of many of the men’s field. Catherine Warchal of San Clemente secured second in 1:53:51, while Sharon Stanley of Tarzana completed the podium in 2:00:34. The women’s top ten featured determined efforts from Tracy Jakubiec, Sarah Frerer, Lisa Waner, Lucinda Newton, Leticia Montanez, Samantha Adams and Trish Mayo, all showcasing the inclusive and competitive spirit of the Dirty Cub event.
Across both gravel distances, riders were treated to Big Bear’s signature mix of smooth forest roads, rugged singletrack and high-altitude air, creating a race environment that rewarded power, handling and endurance. The 2026 edition once again proved why the Dirty Bear and Dirty Cub races are among the most beloved gravel events in Southern California, delivering fast racing, big crowds and unforgettable performances.
Gravel Rides KOM / QOM
The KOM and QOM battles across the Dirty Bear 50-mile and Dirty Cub 25-mile gravel courses added an extra layer of intensity to the 2026 Tour de Big Bear, showcasing pure climbing power on steep forest roads and high-altitude gradients. Riders from across Southern California—and far beyond—pushed themselves to the limit in pursuit of the fastest ascent times, producing standout performances in both men’s and women’s categories.
The 50-mile Dirty Bear Gravel KOM delivered one of the most explosive climbing duels of the weekend. Samuel Brehm of Big Bear City set the day’s benchmark with a blistering 24:07.888, a time that no one could match. Veteran powerhouse Victor Sheldon of Vista came closest, finishing 1:21 back, while Chris Powell of San Diego secured third with a 25:36. The top ten featured a mix of rising talent and seasoned gravel specialists, including Carson Bagley, Colby Eyre, Scott McClave, Eric Bierman, Eg Pierce, Carlos Salazar, and Juan Pablo Diaz Gonzalez Rubio, all delivering sub-31-minute efforts on the demanding climb.
The 50-mile QOM saw an equally fierce battle, with Kristan Smith taking the crown in 35:10.514, edging out Teresa Brecht of Calabasas by just over a second—one of the closest QOM finishes of the day. Tiffany Prata of San Diego claimed third in 37:24, followed by strong rides from Anna Olson, Sofia Hamrin, Karen Meske, Rana Kennedy, Christy Frazelle, Ruth Clemence, and Lynn Faust, rounding out a competitive top ten that showcased the depth of the women’s gravel field.
The 25-mile Dirty Cub Gravel KOM brought a different dynamic, with a mix of masters riders, developing talent, and local specialists attacking the shorter but punchy climb. Norman Kumabe of San Diego topped the men’s leaderboard, followed by Ruben Guzman of West Covina and Mike Dulin of RSM. The rest of the top ten featured consistent efforts from Gerard Luna, David Andrade, Robert Apodaca, Daniel Balboa, David Booth, Fernan Caban, and Sebastian Calvo, all of whom delivered strong climbing performances despite the absence of recorded segment times.
In the 25-mile Dirty Cub Gravel QOM, Audrey Ruland of San Diego led the women’s field, claiming the top spot ahead of Toni Haaker of La Verne and Lynn Mackenzie of Bloomington. Young rider Camila Polo of Valencia impressed with a fourth-place finish, followed by determined climbs from J Fox, Diana Bailey, Kerry Deputy, Marin Eubanks, Sarah Hill, and Mandy Kroetsch, completing the top ten.
Across both gravel distances, the KOM and QOM competitions highlighted the raw climbing talent that defines the Tour de Big Bear’s off-road events. From blistering elite times on the Dirty Bear ascent to gritty, determined efforts on the Dirty Cub climb, the 2026 edition once again proved why Big Bear’s gravel terrain is among the most respected—and feared—climbing challenges in the region.
50K Mountain Bike Race
New for 2026, mountain bike racing reaches a new level with a $5,000 cash purse awarded to the Top 3 Male and Top 3 Female finishers in the 50K Mountain Bike Race. Continuing its commitment to growing the sport, all junior mountain bike racers ages 18 and under raced FREE, encouraging more young athletes to experience competitive cycling. The weekend also recognizes the event's youngest participants with special Youngest Rider Awards.
The 50K Dirty Burro MTB once again delivered one of the most rugged, high-energy showdowns of the Tour de Big Bear, with steep climbs, rocky descents and fast forest-road sections creating decisive gaps across both the men’s and women’s fields. Riders were tested on every part of the course, and the top finishers earned their spots through sheer power, technical skill and endurance.
In the men’s race, Jacob Stutz of West Hills put down a commanding performance, taking the win in 1:53:58 and setting the tone for the entire field. His pace on the climbs and control on the descents kept him clear of David Ramon Rubinat, who finished 1:32 back after a strong, consistent ride from Corona. Daniel Munoz of San Jose secured third in 2:00:57, with the gaps widening as the race progressed. The top ten featured a mix of seasoned MTB riders and emerging talent, including John Nobil, Lawrence Lucero, Kainoa Blanchard, Douglas Frank, Conner Schwartz, Tim Zandbergen, and Ara Movsessian, all of whom conquered the demanding course with grit and precision.
The women’s race produced one of the closest finishes of the day. Maiya Blanchard took the win in 2:16:35, but only by a single second over Annabelle Sackett, who crossed the line in 2:16:36 after a dramatic late-race chase. Alexandria Pasowicz claimed third in 2:24:41, with the rest of the top ten showcasing determined efforts from Rhonda Geiszler, Jasmine Board, Tina Burch, Amber Lapi, Cammie Christian, Elaine Bergeron, and Kylie Shores. The women’s field demonstrated exceptional resilience on the technical sections and maintained strong pacing throughout the course.
Across both categories, the Dirty Burro MTB reaffirmed its reputation as one of Big Bear’s most challenging off-road events. The combination of altitude, terrain and relentless elevation rewarded riders who could balance power with finesse, and the 2026 edition delivered standout performances from both elite and amateur competitors. The Dirty Burro continues to be a highlight of the festival—an event where the strongest riders rise to the occasion and the mountain decides the rest.
Sold-Out EXPO
The 2026 Tour de Big Bear Expo experienced unprecedented growth and sold out, welcoming more than 50 cycling and outdoor brands to Bear Mountain Resort on Friday and Saturday.
Free Events
Tour de Big Bear continued to welcome riders and non-riders alike with a full schedule of free community activities throughout the weekend. Friday evening featured the popular Glow Ride, hosted by ALSO Bikes, where participants decorated bicycles with provided lights and accessories before cruising Bear Mountain Resort together. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated bikes.
Other free events included the Friday Poker Ride on mountain bike trails, Family Fun Ride around Big Bear Lake for riders of all ages, abilities and bike types and Digital Scavenger Hunt in partnership with the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce, encouraging all visitors to explore local businesses, unlock special o?ers and compete for prizes!
Festival Fun for all the Family
Families enjoyed a dedicated Kids Zone featuring a bicycle obstacle course, face painting and a FREE kids bike giveaway on Saturday. The festival atmosphere continued throughout the weekend with Bikes & Brews, live entertainment, food vendors and local favorite MAD B (Middle Aged Dad Bod) performing an energetic set of 90s alternative rock hits on Saturday. Riders were also be entertained by live music along the routes at the legendary Aid Stations Tour de Big Bear has become famous for.
Strengthening the Big Bear Community
The Tour de Big Bear continued its mission of strengthening the Big Bear community. Every registration helped support local schools, youth programs and nonprofit organizations through the work of the Big Bear Cycling Association. Since its inception, the volunteer-led organization has donated more than $1 million to local schools, youth programs and nonprofit organizations.
