Vancouver Island’s Premier Gravel Fondo, the Cowichan Crusher is back this May 31st, 2026 for its 9th edition and takes place in the picturesque Cowichan Valley on sublime gravel.

2026-cowichan-crusher5The Cowichan Crusher highlights historical significance and scenery of the Cowichan Valley offering a scenic and challenging ride. Rolling hills, covered in lush green trees, panoramic views, gravel roads, trails, and scenic vistas of Vancouver Island, particularly within the Cowichan Valley are some of the reasons this is one of the best places in Canada to ride gravel.

The event attracts cyclists from all over Canada and the United States with over 300 participants expected.

In May, conditions are typically ideal and most of the gravel roads are in really good shape. For those racing, it makes the competition in each event very close and fast!

There are four distances for all abilities of cyclist:

Piccolo / Beginner Fondo (Approx. 25km)
Geared toward beginner to intermediate-level cyclists

Medio Fondo (Approx. 50km)
Ideal for beginner to intermediate-level cyclists

Full Fondo (Approx. 98km)
Tailored for intermediate to expert-level cyclists

Full Fondo Plus (Approx. 160km)
Tailored for intermediate to expert-level cyclists

The Cowichan Crusher – May 31st, 2026

Starting and finishing in Lake Cowichan, participants will enjoy camping accommodations, post-event meal, cold beverages and possibly a post-ride dip in the lake depending on the weather.

Gravel paths stretch endlessly, demanding concentration and resilience. Steep pitches require riders to summon their inner grit and push through the leg sting. All burning legs, heavy breathing, and salty sweat will be rewarded by picturesque views of the Cowichan area.

There will be one Aid Station for the Medio Fondo and one Aid Station for the Full Fondo.

There are individual and team competitions for men and women, team of two and team of 4 riders and their results are based upon the combined times.
