Geraint Thomas set to return to the Giro d’Italia in 2023
Thomas has had no luck at the Giro d'Italia after being forced to abandon the race in both 2017 and 2020 due to crashes
“Back to the 2023 Giro. Hopefully I can get around this time. Can’t wait” , Thomas said on social media earlier this week.
Thomas finished third overall in last year's Tour de France but hinted he likely won’t set his sights on the race in 2023 after unveiling a course that features decidedly few time-trial kilometers.
Thomas was among those who fell in a mass crash caused by a parked police motorcycle in front of the Blockhaus summit finish, and dropped out in the second week in 2017.

In 2020, Thomas was among the favorites for the pandemic-delayed Giro but his challenge was ended when he crashed in the neutralized zone on stage three.

The 2023 Giro features almost 70km of time trials, including flat tests in the opening week to Ortona and Cesena, the Tour de France there will only be 22 and those are on vastly mountainous terrain where he would be unlikely to benefit from.
Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) has ruled out racing the 2023 Giro, while his compatriot Primož Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) has stated that a decision on his Grand Tour plans will not be made until the new year.
