20 May 2013

Over 7,500 cyclists lined up on the George Washington Bridge to take part in undoubtedly, North America's largest and professionally run Gran Fondo.

Riders from over 70 countries battled high winds, rain and freezing conditions.

The NYPD were on hand to make sure cyclists were marshalled at every single junction.  Congratulations to the event organisers, staff and partners - some of who spent their day in a cloud, feeding banana's to freezing but smiling cyclists!

Wilkesboro, North Carolina on Sunday, June 2, 2013. The event is named after Tom "Dooley" Dula, and cyclists will pass the site of his infamous hanging, which been celebrated in folk tales and traditional music for over a century. Like Pirate Race Productions' hugely successful event Boone-Roubaix, Tom Dula's Revenge will test riders on a 50 mile course including 15 miles of the unpaved roads where NASCAR was born.

In a nod to the historic role Wilkesboro played in the incubation of American auto racing, the event will start and finish on the smoking pavement of the Wilkesboro Raceway Park drag strip.  Tom Dula's Revenge will include both a race, and a "Gravel FUNdo" for recreational riders want to enjoy the beauty of the Blue Ridge foothills at a leisurely pace.
