It was a tough day for the Peloton in Switzerland with heavy cold rain for pretty much the whole stage.

An early break survived for most of the day until the final seven kilometers of the final category one climb up to Chambery.

Team Sky's Chris Froome finished in 5th place with Richie Porte finishing 24th in the peloton.

Around five thousands mourners attended the funeral of cyclist Michele Scarponi in his home town of Filottrano on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old was killed when he was hit by a van close to his home during a training ride on Saturday, just days after he had finished fourth overall in the Tour of the Alps.

Members of Scarponi's Astana team, led by Fabio Aru, were joined by others including former team-mate Vincenzo Nibali and world champion Peter Sagan at his funeral.

Attacked by a car and it occupants during a training session in Chevreuse Valley, south west of Paris, the cyclist recounts the shocking events.

The riders were hit by a car then beaten and stabbed by the occupants as they immobilized the car and desperately called the police.

Offredo suffered a broken nose, badly bruised ribs and cuts to his arms and hands..

He sustained a broken nose, severely bruised ribs, cuts and bruises all over his body.

Alejandro Valverde has dedicated his recent prize money to the Scarponi family.

In heartbreaking news, Scarponi's macaw, Frankie, was seen sitting alone on a sign at the crossroads where the tragedy took place, where tributes were being laid, clearly missing his training partner.

Valverde out-sprinted Dan Martin in the final metres of Liege-Bastogne-Liege to take his fourth win in the final Spring Classics race.

Valverde dedicated his win to Michele Scarponi who sadly died this week after be hit by a van whilst training near his home in Italy.

Valverde said before the race that he would donate the prize money should he win, and in an emotional interview said he would dedicate his winnings from the whole week to the Scarponi family after winning Fleche Wallonne too.
