Winkler and Agur fastest at the 13th edition of the Okanagan Granfondo

The weekend festival of cycling was held in beautiful weather with an expanded Expo at a new location in Skaha Lake Park.

On Saturday, the sold out Piccolofondo p/b Barry Beecroft Fuel Distributors saw 300 children and youths cycle along the lakeshore.
 
Sunday was the main event, and back this year was the Granfondo Hill Climb Challenge and Team Challenge for male, female & mixed teams.
 
Participants had the option of challenging themselves with the full Granfondo (155 km), the Velocefondo (120 km), the Mediofondo (85 km), or the Cortofondo (35 km). All categories featured premier on-course support.
 
The 2025 event saw extended awards with 1-2-3 for both male and female finishers in the Granfondo, Velocefondo and Mediofondo. The Top 10 fastest Granfondo finishers were also entered to win a cycling trip to Colombia.

In the Granfondo, Summerland rider Lee Agur (Maneo Racing) defended his title in a time of  03:52:31, ahead of Dustin Quigley and Keifer Livingstone. 
 
In the women's Granfondo category Jocelyn Winkler outsprinted Heather Maxfield and Sarah Thackray in a time of 04:21:30.

In the hillclimb challenge Michael Margaritis was crowned King of the Mountain (KOM) fastest up the climb in 00:09:07, ahead of Dustin Quigley +00:01:06 and Granfondo winner Lee Agur +00:01:08.
 
Sarah Thackray was crowned Queen of the Mountain (QOM) fastest up the climb in 00:12:17 just ahead of Jocelyn Winkler +00:00:01 and Sophie Gelineau +00:00:09.
 
David Marshall was fastest in the 120km Velocefondo 03:26:40, with Bonnie Antcliffe the fastest women 03:47:43. Romeo Bowie 02:30:34 was fastest in the 85km Mediofondo, with Rebecca Psutka the fastest women in 02:37:40.
 
Chris Rymaszewski was fastest in the 35km Cortofondo im 01:05:55 and Charlee Dams the fastest women in a time of 01:10:31.
 
Participants celebrated afterwards with burger and beer at the finish, along with live entertainment and a beer garden at the Expo in Skaha Lake Park.
 
Unfortunately a cyclist was tragically killed and two seriously injured after a collision with a vehicle. The whole community sends its condolences and sympathy to all affected, and big thank you to all the First Responders and the volunteers that provided immediate aid.
