Levi Leipheimer and other professional cyclists coming to Fresno to honor the late Edward O. Lund and support the Edward O. Lund Foundation art scholarship program.

“The Hammer Road Rally” Adventure Road Ride, October 22nd, Clovia, CAClovis, CA—October 5th, 2016— Edward O. Lund Foundation today announced the inaugural HAMMER ROAD RALLY – a bicycling event for professionals and beginners alike that will take place in Clovis, CA on October 22nd, 2016. Two-time National Champion, Olympic medalist and 3x Tour of California winner, Levi Leipheimer, has announced his upcoming participation in the event. Proceeds from the ride will provide scholarships to qualifying students applying to Fresno State College’s art program.

The event features four route options, all starting and finishing in Clovis, CA:

•  Easy Route – 27 miles, 860’ of elevation. Designed for beginner/intermediate riders.
•  Road Route – 60 miles, 5,000’ of elevation. Designed to be a challenge for fit, experienced cyclists.
•  The Hammer – 95 miles, 9,100’ of elevation. Best suited for a bike that can accommodate wider tires, 25c or bigger at least.

THE HAMMER ROAD RALLY will culminate in a festival to celebrate riders with prizes, T-shirts, music, food, and beer provided by Mad Duck Brewery. The festival is a family-friendly event that is open to the general public and is sponsored by the Edward O. Lund Foundation.

Event registration fees are $80 for the Easy Route and $145 for more advanced routes. Discounted rates are available to cycling club members and local bike shops. Check with your local retailer or club affiliation. Attendance at the festival is free and everyone is welcome.

“The ride honors Ed Lund, a long time cyclist in the (Fresno) area and someone who lived life to the fullest,” said Levi Leipheimer in a recent social media video. “It will be an incredible day. I’ve ridden this route before and I’m really looking forward to doing it again.”

THE HAMMER ROAD RALLY is the brainchild of Lisa Lund-Brown and honors her late brother Edward O. Lund. In 2015, Edward tragically lost his life in a cycling accident while participating in a Levi’s GranFondo in (Santa Rosa, CA). “Eddy was an incredible human being who enjoyed life to the point of tears. His biggest passions were cycling and art, so it seemed natural to bring the two together with a road race that funded scholarships for young people applying to Fresno State’s art program."

THE HAMMER ROAD RALLY is a chance to celebrate Ed’s love for the bike, and to share that with the community that he cared so much about,” said Carlos Perez, event director and Founder of Bike Monkey of Santa Rosa.
