Utah’s Premier Gran Fondo will once again be the focus of world-class cycling!
The open roads and green flat farm fields of Cache Valley, one of northern Utah's best-kept cycling secrets, will once again become a major draw for thousands of cyclists this July 12-13, 2019.
The focus has always been to create a fun, rewarding and challenging event for everyone. Routes of 38, 50, 70 and 112 miles cater to cyclists with a wide range of abilities who’ll get to enjoy clean air, beautiful vistas and relatively low-traffic roads. Many riders register for their first century, the challenge of a 50-miler, or as a training ride for bigger events like the Tour of Utah’s Ultimate Challenge and LOTOJA.
The 112-mile course will be professionally timed, but all courses will have prizes, allowing individual and teams to win $7,000 dollars in awards, gifts and prizes. If you prefer to ride at a recreational pace, many of our riders stop and enjoy the well-stocked support stations. But beware, prizes are also awarded randomly across the event! Although much of the route is relatively flat, it offers “challenging but doable” climbs up in each distance except the 38-miler.
“The Cache Gran Fondo offers well-stocked aid stations, chances to win great prizes, enjoy a healthy breakfast and lunch, receive a big-bling finisher medal, and have a fun day riding with around 2,000 other inspiring cyclists.” Explains race director, Troy Oldham. “We have many race teams, corporate teams, families & neighbourhood groups, couples and individuals, and they all love Cache Valley for this big, fun, ride!”
For the more competitive cyclist, the 8th Annual Cache Gran Fondo was recently selected as a qualifier for the 2019 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, which allows amateur cyclists the opportunity to compete to win one of the coveted UCI Rainbow Stripes Jerseys, attracting cyclists from all over North America and Internationally. The UCI Gran Fondo World Championships will take place in Poznan, Poland in September 2019, and Vancouver, BC (Canada) in 2020. The Cache Gran Fondo is also part of the expanding 2019 Gran Fondo National Series.
The fun continues after completing the ride, when all finishers enjoy the festival atmosphere at the Cache Gran Fondo Gran Feed and Outdoor Expo sponsored by the Logan Downtown Alliance. Logan City “closes the street” for Saturday and welcomes the Gran Fondo riders to eat an included meal from one of 5 different vendors, meet local businesses, attend the awards ceremony, listen to local bands and enjoy a great summer afternoon in downtown Logan. There are activities for people of all ages, making it an ideal weekend of fun for families.
In 2019, Cache Valley will once again host Stage One of the Tour of Utah, “America’s Toughest Stage Race”, the professional race features some of the world’s top riders, and this is your opportunity to ride some of the same roads as the pro cyclists do during the race.
Another goal of the Gran Fondo has always been to raise money for local charities in the Cache Valley area. Over the past years, proceeds and donations have been raised to support Cancer Services at Logan Regional Hospital, Hope for Cache Valley, The Family Place, Myeloma Crowd Foundation, Bike Utah, and the Cache Valley Mountain Bike Team. We match your donation, and 100% of what you give goes to these great local charities, most are also running our support stations so they can thank you for supporting their causes.
