Triple Crown of Gravel Announced
British Columbia’s Premier Gravel Fondo Series expands to three events in 2018
Vancouver, BC, February 2018 - Tri 1 Events have announced their new series of Gravel Fondo’s for 2018. The Triple Crown of Gravel includes the popular and well-established events, the Cowichan Crusher, Vancouver Island’s Premier Gravel Fondo and the Kettle Mettle, Western Canada's First and Premier Gravel Fondo.
This year on May 26th 2018, the inaugural Golden Ears Gravel Fondo will showcase the amazing scenery of Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam and Golden Ears while also providing a safe and challenging gravel ride on the many gravel dykes and pathways throughout the region. The new Gravel Fondo features two distances of 50 km and 90 km which cater for all abilities of cyclists.
Dean Stanton, Event Director, Tri 1 Events said “After putting on two successful Gravel Fondo’s in BC we have been working hard over the last few years to find a Gravel Fondo route right here in the Lower Mainland. This was a very lofty goal due to all the pavement and expansion but we finally put together a course that is almost all gravel! Although it is almost all flat it is very scenic and is a great starter for anyone wanting to try a Gravel Fondo as this course could easily be accomplished with a road bike with slightly wider tires.”
The Golden Ears Gravel Fondo is primarily on gravel and dirt and the majority of the ride is on the dykes and trails through Port Coquitlam and Pitt Meadows, show casing the amazing scenery of Golden Ears also providing a scenic and challenging ride.
After completing the ride, participants will enjoy the Beer Gardens as well as the opportunity to wash up in an area near the finish line. Dean Stanton continued “We are putting more FUN into our Fondo cycling events.”
The Cowichan Crusher, on June 24th 2018 is the second round of the series, which is a big ride on gravel and dirt on the Cowichan Valley Trail. The Cowichan Crusher showcases the historical nature and amazing scenery of the Cowichan Valley, providing a scenic and challenging ride.
The ride features two standard distances of 50 km and 90 km which cater for all abilities of cyclists. Start and finishing in Duncan, BC, participants will enjoy onsite camping and a post ride dip in the lake, a BBQ and Beer Gardens as well as a wash up area too.
The fifth edition of the Kettle Mettle showcases the Kettle Valley Trail and the amazing scenery of the Okanagan while also providing a safe and challenging ride. There are three distances for abilities; 50km, 100km and tougher 130km which features and additional section of gravel. The main start is beside Lake Okanagan, Penticton and finishes in East Kelowna. On route, there be several aid stations as well as support for riders with flats and mechanical issues and of course first aid.
