Team Camp Concludes, Season Begins
Holowesko|Citadel p/b Hincapie Sportswear is poised for a successful season
The 2017 Holowesko|Citadel p/b Hincapie Sportswear team camp was filled with days of mountain rides, afternoons of recovery massages, and nights of general team time, with a few dinners served by executive chef Matt Accarrino (just recently featured in Men’s Health magazine). The team stayed together in Swamp Rabbit Lodge, a cycling-centric vacation rental in Greenville, South Carolina.
In the short 10 days that the team spent together, they experienced a variety of rides in extremely fluctuating weather. The week began with routes through the twisting roads of the Blue Ridge Mountains during sunny days of 75-degree weather. Mid-week, George Hincapie led the team through a difficult mountain bike excursion in the snow. And in between the long rides, the guys even spent a few hours goofing off at a nearby pump track.
Perhaps less traditional for a pro cycling team training camp, the cyclists and staff also paid a visit to the Greenville chapter of Meals on Wheels, a local organization that hand-delivers hot meals to nearly 1500 homebound residents in the area. The team spent the morning cooking and packing 1433 meals, then handing them off to volunteers to make deliveries.

New Hincapie Sports Inspired 2017 Team Kit
The guys of Holowesko|Citadel have never been the type to blend in with the crowd. So it makes sense that their kits are as bold as they are.
Neon yellow and stark black combine to create striking geometric shapes that evoke a sense of motion and urgency.
“It’s a natural progression from last year’s kit design,” explains Hincapie Sportswear art director Brian Faulkenberry. “The original team kit was a grid of squares, reminiscent of the New York skyline—Rich and George’s home. Last year we turned those squares on a diagonal, alluding to the irreverence and attitude that’s become so prevalent among the guys. This year, we punctuated the shapes with neon, taking the design to the next level.”
You’ll also notice pops of neon pink in the underside of the jersey collar, as well as the cycling cap and gloves. That’s a shout-out to Betty Designs, a close partner of the Hincapie S portswear brand and fan of the team. Last year she gave the team podium camps with “Betty (hearts) Hincapie.” This year the guys wanted to make sure she knew they (hearted) her back.
“Over the years the kit has transformed from an idea to really a true style,” says chief sports director Thomas Craven. “It’s really evolved into something that represents who we are as a team.”
