International Granfondo La Fausto Coppi reaches 1550 registered athletes

Since the 21st of November, date of the official opening of registrations, the International Granfondo continues to collect entries, proving once again that it is one of the most appreciated by cyclists from all over the world. The achievement of 1,550 registered participants is to be considered a record, which the ASD Fausto Coppi on the road - the organisers of the granfondo - proudly announces. Especially in this particular historical moment, in which there is a general decline in attendance at sporting events.

It will be a weekend of sport, promotion of the territory, outdoor activities in the Expo Village set up in Piazza Galimberti, and of international flair: 17 nations are already represented at the moment.

The routes remain unchanged from the last editions: Granfondo of 177 km and 4,125 metres of altitude difference and Mediofondo of 111 km and 2,500 metres of altitude difference.

Seventeen nations are represented so far, including Italy, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, France, England, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden, and the USA - with Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain predominating.

The GPM (Gran Premio della Montagna) for both tracks is the legendary Colle Fauniera, with its 22.3-kilometer climb to the 2,481 metre where there is the Pantani monument.
“We are satisfied but not surprised – comment Davide Lauro and Emma Mana, the organisers of the event - After a year's stop, many friends, athletes, and partners have asked us to reintroduce this much-loved event; a proof of how much La Fausto Coppi has grown over time and how much enthusiasts want to cycle in the splendid mountains of our territory. The sports events sector as well as the cycling world is experiencing a general decline in adhesions, which has little to do with the event or those organising it. Unfortunately, it is a time of difficulty and economic crisis, a long wave of the pandemic, which pushes athletes to carefully select the events in which they want/can participate. It is good to see that La Fausto Coppi is one of these!”
