Belgians Heck and Clauw Dominate UCI Schleck Gran Fondo in Luxembourg
In a thrilling display of endurance and speed, over 3,300 cyclists from around the globe converged on Luxembourg for the UCI Schleck Gran Fondo on Saturday
The event, a qualifying race for the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, witnessed an electrifying competition that culminated in an all-Belgian podium for the men’s race after a grueling 159 kilometers and 2,250 meters of climbing.
John-Ross Clauw of the SHEETAH-KOERZ team emerged victorious in a nail-biting finish, crossing the line in a time of 4:03:44. Clauw's remarkable performance was marked by a fierce sprint against fellow Belgian riders Cedric Raymackers and Andreas Derweduwen who rounded out the men's podium. The race showcased not only Clauw's exceptional talent but also the strength of Belgian cycling, as all five top finishers hailed from the same country.
“I’m overjoyed with this win,” said Clauw after the race. “The competition was fierce, and the course was challenging, but the support from the crowd and my teammates pushed me to give my best. I’m looking forward to representing Belgium at the World Championships!”
In the women’s category, German cyclist Nadine Heck claimed victory with an impressive time of 4:25:28. Following closely behind was Swiss competitor Jutta Stienen, who finished in 4:31:29, while Belgian Jo Wouters crossed the line in 4:41:05 to secure third place.
