Bautista and Raimondi Take Victory at UCI Granfondo Suisse
The breathtaking landscapes of the Suisse Vaud Alps served as the backdrop for an exhilarating showdown this past weekend, as mountain climbing specialists gathered to compete in the UCI Granfondo Suisse
Riders vied for a coveted spot in the 2025 UCI Gravel World Championships, with the top 25% of finishers in each age and gender category automatically qualifying for the prestigious event scheduled for next October in the Netherlands and Australia.
The challenging 150 km gran fondo route, which featured nearly 4,000 meters of climbing across six formidable cols—La Croix, Pillon, Mittelberg, Mosses, La Forclaz, and La Croix from the opposite side—tested the limits of even the most seasoned cyclists.
In a stunning display of endurance and skill, 25-year-old Italian Alex Raimondi of PIGARELLA MULTISPORT dominated the men's race, finishing solo in an impressive time of 4:36:44. Raimondi's relentless ascent and descent through the majestic mountains secured him first place, followed closely by Poland's Sebastian Druszkiewicz from WALBET TEAM, who crossed the finish line at 4:42:12. Alessanro Barra of GARDA MATERGIA rounded out the men's podium, finishing in 4:42:47.
On the women’s side, 34-year-old former professional cyclist Vanessa Santeliz Bautista from Venezuela, representing FACTOR HICARI STEMAX, claimed victory with a time of 5:21:53. Bautista’s remarkable performance showcased her climbing prowess and determination, as she outpaced her competitors. The second-place finisher, Alina Mylka from Poland (THOMUS / WINDOWMASTER BY WYSS TRAINING), completed the course in 5:46:24, while Switzerland's Alexia Schmid (CYCLOPHILE LAUSANNOIS) secured third place with a time of 5:47:55.
The UCI Granfondo Suisse not only served as a thrilling race but also represented a significant opportunity for cyclists to qualify for the upcoming world championships, drawing participants from across the globe. The challenging terrain and stunning vistas made the event a true test of endurance, skill, and determination.
“This weekend’s race was a remarkable showcase of talent and perseverance,” said UCI event coordinator, Marco Rossi. “We are thrilled to see such enthusiastic participation and commend all the riders for their incredible performances on the steep and beautiful cols of the Vaud Alps.”
