500 Cyclists Rode the Inaugural Marmotte Gran Fondo Pyrénées
Matthieu Boulo fastest man in a time of 6h 21m 29 secs and Anja Buysse fastest women in a time of 7h 56m 58 secs
Luz-Ardiden, French Pyrénées, August 29th - 500 Cyclists rode the the inaugural Marmotte Granfondo Pyrénée and tackled 6 legendary cols made famous in the Grand Tours of the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana in beautiful weather.
After departing Argeles Gazost cyclists tackled 163 km with a massive 5,600 metres (18,373 feet) of climbing, that included a double ascent of the Col du Tourmalet at 2,115 metres, Hourquette d’Ancizan (1564m), La Mongie (1710m) to finish atop of the famous climb of Luz-Ardiden (1666m).
The first year was a success and a good test for the new addition to the Marmotte series of Gran Fondo's.
Keep your eye on this event as it's destined to become another well attended event with thousands expected in 2017.
